Hey everyone, quick question/hot take for the off-road crowd:

Are you team C-load or team E-load?

If you’re mostly running light trucks or SUVs (like a Tacoma, Wrangler, or 4Runner) and spending time on the trails, C-load tires are usually the sweet spot. Here’s why:

  • Better Flex & Traction: C-load tires have a slightly softer sidewall, which lets them air down much better on rocks and mud for a bigger contact patch.
  • Smoother Ride: E-load tires are designed for heavy-duty towing (think 3/4-ton diesel trucks). Put them on a lighter rig, and you’ll feel every single bump on the pavement like you're riding in a lumber wagon.
  • Weight Savings: E-loads are heavy! That extra unsprung weight drags down your gas mileage, acceleration, and puts extra wear on your suspension.
Now, if you’re constantly dragging your rig over razor-sharp granite or carrying a heavy camper setup, the bulletproof sidewalls of an E-load might be worth the harsh ride. But for 90% of weekend warriors? C-load gives you all the off-road grip without destroying your daily commute.

Change my mind—what are you running on your rig right now? 👇

I dunno. I got E-load M/T's cuz I ginsu-knifed my GY's five times, including a big golf ball size hole in the sidewall within 18 months. So I said not again. I haven't had any bad issues. 19lbs heavier, I run a bit lower in psi, I don't find them sooper loud. Off road much superior. 🤷‍♂️ Do what works for you.

Even pulling a max capacity off grid camper, my C rated Toyo AT's in 285/75 work fine. I personally can't see a situation where you would "need" an E rated tire. And when I air down to 20psi for trails, they feel great!

D load here, but I do run over a lot of granite and other sharp rocks... And my tire guy had D or F available in a 35 at the time... would have gone E if I could have..

I’m running Fs, it’s the only rating available in the 35” size for the K03 last year. I don’t mind them I do have to air down a tad more. Even at 20 psi they look fully inflated.

I've only ran D's. They do just fine in the mountains, but the desert absolutely shreds the lugs. Sidewalls have held up though.

I have the OEM 33" C-load tires, and tomorrow they get switched for E-load 35s (and a suspension upgrade). They need to hold up in the desert when I go there.

I like the Destination XT E load really tightened up cornering and still flattens high frequency chop and washboards plus mounting curbs are barely noticable and can be done effortlessly 10-15 mph haha.

D load for me is the “sweet” spot…C is too fragile & E is too stiff

For rock crawling C is the way to go. I use BFG tires and have never had a problem, even on sharp rocks. Just air down and they will conform over the rocks. I usually air down to 12 or so for rock crawling. Been wheeling for only 20 years, so what do I know?
