Ha soft top gang for the win. It would suck to have to crawl through the rear but I could do it.
... and then with no FOB and no cell coverage what would you do??? Still lose, but have a place to sit! 🤣

My assumption is the FOB is locked in the glove box or the center console but that would not prevent me from starting the car (I believe)

Assumption wrong unless you brought a rock in with you to smash your way into the locked glove box or center console. How hard is it to understand with no FOB, no cell coverage, and keypad not working you aren't going anywhere?

Well they had to drive up there, and they don’t mention losing it or freaking out because they didn’t have it — just that they couldn’t get the doors unlocked

So I would also assume the fob was sitting happily in the cup holder taunting them all as they huddled around the fire cursing their long lost 4-digit code

Does it matter if the FOB is locked in a glove box/console? As long as the FOB is in the Bronco, it should start.

Sadly I think you guys are off here.

@Rspayde it shouldn't be possible to lock the fob away without a second key to do this.

@TPadden72 based on the fact that OP could not physically lock the fob away, it would be accessible and therefor would be able to start the Bronco.

So in summary, I'm in the camp that would've busted through a soft top if equipped, or smashed a window, based on the circumstances here.

Has anyone else had an issue with their keypad? I've used mine hundreds of times without issue.

OP - Has it happened before, or since? Are you sure you're entering the right code? Seems odd for it to be a one-off. Battery issue?

Agree with everything but I'd have walked to civilization (cell coverage) and called the wife. I need the exercise and she's doing nothing but sitting home watching TV. 🤣

I do a lot of trail riding and always carry the fob either in my bikes storage pouch under the seat or my handlebar mounted one along with my wallet & phone., snacks etc.
For outings that are full day i have a small backpack.
For me leaving the fob behind is something i prefer not to do, unless i was using the hide a key box.
And fwiw, i would have broken the glass no way I'm spending the night especially considering the other people in my group to make them go through that when there was an out..

I've been mostly happy with MY2023 Badlands but this weekend's experience was beyond subpar. I went on a leaf-peeping mountain bike ride in the Rockies with my buddy, his kid, and two dogs. When we returned to the car, the keypad would not unlock it. The LED would blink once and that's it. I've waited 5, 10 and 20 minutes with no success. We were dressed for a warm day, but by then the sun was setting and the temps were dropping fast. We had to descend lower down the mountain and start a fire to stay alive. Then I had to climb the mountain in search of reception and eventually had enough to send a pin to my wife, who would drive with a spare key from over 3 hours away. We spent half the pitch-black, moonless night huddling by the fire as we were being surrounded by a herd of bugling elk and howling coyotes, which drove the dogs crazy and scared the kid. When I got home, the keypad started working again. When I brought this up to Ford today, they scoffed and said, "Oh, it happens sometimes, you just gotta wait a few hours."

P.S. My plan B was to smash a window. I wanted to push that moment away for as long as possible since I am planning on taking the car on a camping trip this week and wouldn't have the time to get it replaced.
Make lemons out of lemonade. Write a book and pick up an option for a movie script.

This has never happened before, but a few times I did have unusually long delays (3-5 sec) between entering the code and the car unlocking. I am also one of the few unlucky chumps that received someone else's pad when I took delivery of my Bronco, and the dealer had to replace it.

The dealer told me yesterday that their tech wouldn't even bother diagnosing the keypad issue because this isn't something they do. Even though I took delivery of my Bronco with the pad installed and it's a Ford product made for a Ford product and sold by Ford, it falls squarely in the accessories department. They gave me the phone number for the accessories department and that was it.

Sounds like an adventure and now you got a good story. Every time I go on a "guy's trip" somebody almost dies and we get another good story.

Sucks dude, but I'd smash a window over hiking down the mountain and starting a fire to stay alive surrounded by wild animals, especially with a kid. My wife would probably also tell me to smash a window when I asked her to drive 3 hours 😝.
1st question out of her mouth. You don't see any rocks out there? 2nd question would be So you want me to drive 3 hours to bring you a key, and then 3 hours back home?
