How is the access with the top in place from the tailgate, please? The hardtop obviously has plenty of access with the flip-up window. Our soft tops would appear to be an exercise in frustration. TIA.
I have the IAG soft top assist so my rear window goes up higher than the factory prop rod. I’m able to easily get to the entire shelf in the lowered position. I have things in the basket as well as stepped to the front and I underneath.

I’d recommend getting the IAG lift assist even without the shelf.

^ Everything this guy said. Plenty of easy access to stuff both above and strapped below the shelf. It really is the most useful mod available for the Bronco.

I got it installed and it rattled, as others have noted. I had to adjust the driver latch down (4mm Allen) and tighten the same post (5mm Allen and 13mm wrench). I added 6 wraps of Scotch 33 electrical tape to that side and 3 wraps to the passenger. I also added a motorcycle fuel tank mount bushing to each side of the latch post to dampen movement.

At the hinge, I added 1/4" thick, 3/8" ID, 1" OD nylon washers to keep it centered. The post is probably 10mm since I had to waller out the ID a bit with a 3/8" drill bit to get it on.

No more major movement now but the driver latch still has a bit of play (1/16-1/8").

All this said, this is still a good investment, and I would do it again. Engineering and making something always involves learning and tradeoffs. This is a great balance of both.

I installed Harbor Freight Marine Grade shrink tubing over the latch pins. It's a perfect fit even without shrinking it. Also Teflon washers I bought from McMaster-Carr for the hinge pins. The shelf is silent.

I had to waller out the ID a bit with a 3/8" drill bit to get it on.

Good details in your post but I had to single this out.
"Waller out" makes me homesick for East Tx.
I hear it some here, but mainly from neighbors who came from from the Grundy, VA area.
I use it and find it sad I don't hear it nearly enough anymore.

Oh yeah, and agreed on the shelf. It's as handy as handles on a box.

I have a love hate relationship with that shelf. Everything I've done to stop the squeaks only last so long, and then it starts squeaking out of nowhere.

I hate driving down the road in a rattle trap.

I love mine.

I keep mine in the down position, and actually moved the locking arms down to keep the good look during the summer with my top off. I use the OEM net to keep my items from flying out > no issues.

HOWEVER. Anyone had issues with rusted out bolts? Mine look pretty rough. Now I keep my top off so moisture is at a high, but it's worse than expected.

They are not outdoor-rated coated bolts.
You'd have to swap out for stainless as a best-case as well as all stainless washers.

Can anyone get me the measurements from the floor of the bronco to the bottom of the shelf. I run a slide out fridge mounted on top of my storage drawer as well as a slide out black stone griddle. I'd love to have a shelf above them.

I wanna see this, as I use both.
Fridge is pretty common.
I just carry the griddle in a zip up Blackstone bag and cram it wherever it fits without crunching something under it.

At work, so no measuring tape currently. With the shelf in the up position you are 100% fine. It sits quite high. I would assume if you are overlanding with a fridge, then topless is not the goal, so likely not a problem.

I replied to @OBXBRONCO to see his setup, I am not the one needing any measurements.
