Thanks to everyone for the advice on lifting my Bronco.

I never claimed to have first hand experience with their portals, so lets clear that up. You do, which instead condescendingly saying "I'm ready to learn", you could have said that from the start.Super happy that you haven’t had any issues with your stage one steering rack modification
Your relying on engineering qualifications for validation is absolutely perfect given the circumstances. Reminds me of a company constantly touting perfection based on “aerospace engineering” and a history of racing. Carry on sir.
You literally spouted off their marketing word for word. And now you're saying that, because the guy that sells the portals say they are better than another option, he must be right! I can't think of a more reliable source!I never claimed to have first hand experience with their portals, so lets clear that up. SO let's get the d**k measuring out of the way, I am an engineer and I've designed custom gearing solutions on million dollar automated systems. I'm not an idiot who thinks marketing phrases mean anything.

Yall coming at me hard because I think it means something that 74Weld races with their portals is wild. Again, to me that just means they've had to make a product that works because if they didn't, you better believe they'd be getting dropped. There's nothing worse in racing than losing, and losing money, because stuff breaks down.
Do I think all their stuff is "race level" of course not, but if you're designing parts for race applications, again, lessons get learned and re-applied to other products.
Now, my guess @SierraBronco is that you have a specific rub with Quinn or someone else at 74Weld (beyond the issues you've seen with leaks, I didn't go through all your threads because I don't have 3 days to read all of that rn). When I had a phone conversation with Quinn sometime last year, he specifically made it a point to tell me how much better portals were than IFS long arm kits. You are apparently working on an IFS long arm kit of some sort, so I'm guessing that is part of the hostility toward anyone who dares say they think 74Weld is quality. Honestly, I don't even know if Quinn is still there, but it certainly sounds like there is an axe to grind against someone over there...
So, back to my first post in this thread, someone PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me why a drop bracket suspension is better than portals. I still haven't heard an argument to that. If you wanna talk about full IFS long arm suspension, that's a whole separate argument, one that I haven't expressed any opinion on at this point...
im just simply saying, "race proven" is marketing and should be taken with a grain of salt, and that there are in fact documented problems with their products on a consumer level, i have no opinion of their race stuff cause i've obviously never heard anything about them, probly like everyone else. "race proven" or not, defective consumer parts indicate that "race proven" means nothing for said parts.I never claimed to have first hand experience with their portals, so lets clear that up. Nope, I didn't say that at all, I never said that portals are better than IFS long arm. I was just using that as an example of part of why I think you have a problem with them. If Quinn said that to me, I'm sure he's said it everywhere. You literally spouted off their marketing word for word. Give it a few months and I'll be able to provide you with direct comparisons using similar budgets on the exact same year, trim, and driver that isn't being paid to say one thing is better than the other. Unless of course the Long Arm stuff is done before that. Then I'll need to find another stock 2024 four door Wildtrak to put the portals onto.Nope, I didn't say that at all, I never said that portals are better than IFS long arm. And I can apricate that.Give it a few months and I'll be able to provide you with direct comparisons using similar budgets on the exact same year, trim, and driver that isn't being paid to say one thing is better than the other. Then you'll be able to decide for yourself!
They absolutely have their advantages. But the disadvantages are there too and people seem to be so enamored with getting their gucci accessory to portray a status or simply don't want to admit having made a $21K mistake that they don't discuss the disadvantages. You can look up the portal review for honest feedback, taking the 74w customer service and breakages out of the factor. Simply a review on portals themselves. Though I think I need to update that to reflect how horrible the vehicle is affected when a rear axleshaft is broken and you only have three wheel drive. You think it's going to be okay by simply cutting off the shaft after the tone ring and installing the stub? Oh no. No no no. That shit is not coolAnd I can apricate that.
In my defense on all of this, I was just sharing an opinion from the information I had seen. I hadn't seen all the stuff on your post about the leaks and all of that. Yall jumped on my about the "race proven" comment and I, of course, got defensive.
That being said, I stand behind my logic to an extent. Could I engineer a portal axle, sure I could, 100%, that doesn't mean it's gonna be any good until I test, revise, test, revise, test, revise,... A race setting does that at an accelerated pace, because you're competing for lots and lots of money and to not look dumb breaking down. I never underestimate the power or pride and money.
They obviously made some mistakes in the version 2 boxes. When you consider that they were trying to make them more universal and cheaper, that makes sense because making something less custom and less expensive often means compromise. Hopefully they get those issues all worked through.
Ya, who knows what kind of logic Ford has programmed for the rear wheel sensors. I imagine the same thing would happen if you broke a factory rear shaft. They absolutely have their advantages. I wasn’t clear-there were no issues with the tone ring or ABS system with the stub in there to plug the portal and keep the tone ring functional. This was due to how the vehicle behaved with the portals on the rear but without power being sent to one side. It acts like an anchor when trying to climb anything and going slightly uphill. Think trail turn assist on 11 but you’re wanting to go the opposite direction or straight, but it’s not letting you. That shit was not cool. Not to brag, but I made an excellent diagram to depict how the suspension is affected.Ya, who knows what kind of logic Ford has programmed for the rear wheel sensors. I can report, the front does fair better. When I broke a CV, I was able to put the broken stub back in the wheel bearing, pull the center shaft and CVs (including tone ring, broke right where the stub shaft begins to widen on the wheel side), put the good stub in the diff side, and it worked fine in 2wd. Wouldn't let me go into 4wd at all, cruise didn't work, ABS and traction control lights all the way home, but I got home driving 2.5 hours on the highway.

Really annoying that these modern vehicles don’t have an option to override the computers. Just do like Tesla and say “are you surrrreeeee you want to do this?”LMFAO, got you. And yes, that is an amazing diagram.
It was nice to at least have 3wd, even having to tow an anchor. When I broke and lost the tone ring, no 4x4 at all, no lockers. I was about 50 yards from the main trial but the trail I was on, called "Rocker Knocker", has a car-sized boulder as a gatekeeper. Had to literally get belly drug over the top because if you don't run the absolute perfect line on the one side (where the Jeep is in this pic) you will fall down on your side and wipe out your doors. So that was fun.

Have you EVER placed a drop bracket up against a rock?.... They sure do NOT slide over very easily.... In fact they act like a great big anchor..... I can slide a stock bronco with 35s over a rock using the skids.... The Drop Bracket will NOT just slide over rocks... Show me a drop bracket skid.... I have seen a couple of home made ones... BUT NOTHING on the market. All for 1 or maybe 2 inches of clearance.... While that is a lot of clearance starting at 11.8 inches, I will take the full skid over a drop bracket any day of the week. That is the point of the Bronco..... It is ready. If you want to improve it, that takes a hell of a lot of money because there are NOT any quick easy, inexpensive improvements to make.I’ m your huckleberry, I want in on the gangbang.
The drop bracket is superior due to $$cost which allows everyone to participate.
Ignoring the fact that the high cost of the portals themselves is outside many people’s budget they also require frequent service to maintain, plus other upgrades to the truck which raise the cost even more. So for most people portals are to damn expensive and have no business being brought into a conversation about normal budget lift options.
I did my best to answer that for you.
