Regardless, using a donor VIN will make the vehicle service history look really suspicious for the original VIN. Ford unfortunately won't just share the strategies publicly for us to pick and choose from, and I understand there are a lot of reasons to restrict or make it difficult the average person from running amok with the programming, but for enthusiasts, it would be a godsend if they were just a little more open with the system.
Yeah I’m not too concerned about the history. Ford will never waste their time looking at that unless there’s some crazy concern. And even then, all they’ll see is a PMI on the IPC for some reason at a very low mileage.

Well that makes me feel better. :D

Which is exactly why I unplug the TCU when I want to FAAFO with something. I've seen vehicles report VIN mismatch codes up to the cloud when people don't unplug the TCU while doing creative things with FDRS/FORScan.

I think the PMI method is safe based on my knowledge of how FDRS works. I would still side-load the IPC with FORScan and avoid FDRS as much as possible, but that's just me. The IPC files are the same for all similar vehicles, so no VIN trickery is needed to flash it with FORScan. To the average person that would want to do what @Ducati1098 did to their truck and does not have FDRS, all they would need is the files that he used and FORScan as opposed to investing into everything you need to use FDRS.

Hey @Ducati1098 did you ever find the button that shamsaka was talking about? To see if you could change things on the cluster?

No, I honestly just haven’t had a ton of time to work on it lately. Low on the priorities list. Maybe I can mess around with it this weekend

So changing the VIN in the BCM tricked FDRS into pulling the correct files to program it with the PMI? I figured FDRS would be smarter than that and notice the VIN was changed. There are some "black market" fixes we use to fix certain things where the VIN is changed in the BCM and then changed back after the firmware is flashed, but we unplug the TCU to prevent the vehicle from syncing up with the mothership and Ford finding out the VIN was changed.

It may be a good idea for you to pull the IPC files from your laptop for people who want to do this in the future and don't have FDRS.
I had to do the same thing when I installed the severe duty steering rack in my ā€˜22 OBX. Swap the vin watch every light imaginable in the dash and warning messages come across. Jump to FDRS pmi the rack then back to forscan to change the vin back to the correct one.

Thanks and sorry I found that you did and didn’t mean to post that lol.
I know this is a completely vehicle and can’t be that simple. But for my ā€˜17 superduty there was a section in the plain English side for numbers on the gauges. Might be worth a look.

Yeah I tried to use a bunch of different models to figure out the as-built stuff for the gauges, but nothing seemed to make a difference unfortunately

Do you have any details on where you purchased the digital cluster? also instructions on the replacement process. I'm looking to get a 2024 Badlands but really like the 2025 digital cluster. Any drawbacks to doing it yourself?

You can purchase it from any Ford dealer.
Swapping the cluster is straightforward, the programming will probably be difficult if you aren’t familiar with forscan and FDRS.

Yeah it should be pretty straightforward. The biggest hurdle is finding a dealer that will order the module for you, I’ve yet to find someone who will. It seems like most are afraid of doing anything tied to a VIN for some sort of liability reason.

Um, you could just ask @Ducati1098 ...

I have no interest being the middle man between parts and sales on here lol just not my department.
Hahaha yeah I wouldn’t do that to him. Plus his dealer is one I tried already šŸ˜‚
