There are several opinions on this, many say it does not need one at all. Because of the way the 2.7 is setup. With that, the Ford system is good, as well as a few other systems out there. Most of these systems run both, a passenger and driver side setup.

I have an IAG Oil Air Separator, which is basically a more advanced catch can. It runs to both the driver's and the passenger's. With this system, I never need to empty it as everything is separated and run back into the system. It is the same setup Ford uses on the GT500.

I have both. I get a ton of nasty crap out of mine when I check them every time I change the oil. Well worth it to keep that shit out of the turbos, charge pipes, intercooler, intake, ect.

So do you need one for each turbo, or can you use one that has two inlets?
New to these so not sure what to buy.

You can use either. You can use the two-can system, or you can use the one-can that goes to both sides.

I feel if you are going to use one, get a system that goes to both the passenger and driver system.

If these engines "needed" something then it would have come with it from the factory.
Tell that to all the other Ecoboost engines that have countless issues with carbon build up on the back of the valves lol
While the 2.7 may not have that specific issue thanks to port injection, just because you dont "need" something doesn't mean it wont help.

I typically agree that they are unnecessary. The port injection keeps the valves clean and lets the engine burn off any crankcase oil. With that said, I believe the IAG separator is far superior to catch cans and is likely the best option if you just really feel that you need to do something about it.

The crap you find in your cans is a mixture of water and oil. Our AOS is heated with engine coolant to also allow the water vapor to stay in the air instead of condensing into the oil. So all that goes back into the system is oil.

The 2.7 probably does not "need" them. People add them to separate the crankcase oil from the air that enters the engine.

Don’t need one. 2.7 has dual injection. The port injection will clean your valves as gasoline passes there. Carbon buildup is unlikely.

Well as you can see it's a polarizing topic lol.

I did the Ford Performance cans (two total) just because I found a good deal on them. Empty them out at every oil change and there's usually a good tablespoon of stuff in the driver's side can, little less on the passenger side.

I'd say if you want them, do them. And if it doesn't really matter then don't bother

Definitely another good option. I was just trying to point out that there are other benefits to installing catch cans or even your AOS other than simply keeping the back of the valves clean.

I think anyone that has work on an ecoboost engine before knows how much some of that mixture sits throughout the intercooler/intake/charge pipes. I've worked on hundreds of 1.5 ecoboosts alone that had over a quart of oil/water mixture just sitting in the intercooler.
It may not be a necessity, but I sure as hell don't want that.

If the intake valves are all you are worried about, then maybe. But oil vapor condensing in the intercooler and intake tract (as others have pointed out) is no bueno. Just creates inefficiencies in the engine leading to knock as the worst case. Just don't believe that there ISN'T oil vapor in the PCV system just because it has 'port' injection. If we weren't dealing with turbocharged engines, the need for these devices would be much less. Less blowby and less places for the oil to condense.
