Talk me into the JTOP Bimini

I had debated getting a JTops for mine, but the combo of the velcro, their massive logo and it needing to install under the cross brace was a turn off for me. I take the top off for the summer so i didn't need anything that would essentially stay on there permanently year round like the JTops is meant to. I ended up going with a Spiderweb shade and have zero complaints. It provides some shade from the sun without completely killing the open air feeling and it stays nice and tight with no flapping in the wind. You do have to take it off if you want to put your hardtop back on but it literally takes about two minutes by yourself to install or remove and once it's off there's no sign you ever had one installed. It's easy enough too where if i was out somewhere and wanted a full open air experience I could take it off quick and just stash it in the back.

Have any pics? Is the anything between the front of the shade and “windshield”? I like the jtop for that (have one but haven’t installed) but don’t want to Velcro, and lose the open air…

The spiderweb use all factory holes and such. Their website doesn’t really show anything.

I'll try and grab some pics of mine later but it is pretty much just like what's shown in that picture on their website. It comes close to the windshield but doesn't completely butt up to it like the JTops one. At the same time though both tops are just a mesh so you don't really gain anything by having it butt right up to the windshield. Aerodynamics alone keep any wind from billowing in through that small gap if that's what you're concerned about. I used to have Jeeps for years before I got this and always ran some sort of Bestop bimini on them, but those were a solid fabric that could help keep rain out if I got caught in a passing storm. So, in that case you wanted it tight to the windshield but because these are sunshades it doesn't matter too much. The only downside I can come up with on that gap from my own experience is that at certain times of day the sun will shine through just right and beat directly on your face. But to me it's such a short window of time that it happens that it doesn't bother me at all.

But yes, their website isn't the greatest as far as giving much for pictures or info. Being able to use existing factory holes was a huge plus for me. When I was originally looking there were a few other brands out there that wanted you to drill holes into the frame and that wasn't something I wanted to do. Fitment wise they don't specify on their website if it's compatible with the Raptor but it fits on mine fine without any modification needed. That being said though maybe the top has some more play to it at highway speeds on non-Raptor models that don't have the extra cross brace on top. The bungees keep it pretty taught though so I'm guessing it's a non issue.

Thank you for your reply! Yeah, I guess Im concerned about the gap in front as I’m always getting blinded by sun coming through there. I’m not too worried about the very common here rain shower (Illinois). Don’t wanna lose the open air feeling. Being able to take the top off and under 15 minutes, I have no problem forecasting for weather.

I haven’t installed the Jtop yet, because I don’t know if I’m gonna like being closed in. And I really don’t want to do the Velcro on it if I’m not gonna be happy having a shade on top.

Love my Jtops. Had it installed for a year. I wouldn’t even consider removing it. Admittedly it is rarely used with full top off. But when I do I’m thrilled. Doesn’t flap and provides full shade.

with top on the white interior brightens the cabin. I had it custom printed with one of my dad’s abstract images of a steel street construction cover. I think it looks rad from the outside.

i also have an old Miata NB. I wish there was something similar for longer drives. Makes driving the Miata less fun now with the sun pounding on me. Only slightly. Still the best go-kart ever!

For Raptor owners who have JTOP Bimini, help push me over the edge of getting one. I was going to last year but was waiting for the custom option.

I just finished my DIY top hoist and I've been hemming and hawing on getting the JTOPs. There aren't really any alternatives for the Raptor and the cheapy Amazon special I bought to prove that point, did it's job, it sucks.

My only issue probably sounds silly but I don't like how it covers a significant amount of the side of the roll bar. Even if you remove it which it's really made to stay on, you still have the Velcro.

With the way the frameless windows work, you don't actually see much of the bars and like pop of color up there.

Absolute first world problems and knit picky, I know.

This, rags and a plastic scraper. It takes awhile, is messy and you’ll get the adhesive that balls up on everything. Goof off or any other product like that is worthless. I never want to do that again. Good luck.

I would also like to see pictures but really just to understand how it looks with the Raptor bar.

It stretches underneath the cross bar. Here’s my abbreviated pro/ con list for you. Overall it’s a great product and I’ve put it on/ taken it off every season.

Cons:
- Velcro covers the roll bar which is annoying without a doubt. But on the flip side you should have a Bimini on anytime the is off
- Bitch to install. Need to let the glue dry for a day and I can never get it to sit perfectly over the top (mainly the cut out for the GPS antenna is always off)

Pros:
- shades the entire interior without gaps
- no flapping at high speed
- can leave it installed with the top on ( I just take it off but it’s an option)
- American company and quality product

I like the Bronco bikini except they don’t have a mesh option. If I didn’t care about wanting mesh I’d go for one.

Doesn't seem too massive to me.. the beauty of JTOPS is it stays on with or without the hard top, like a headliner, When putting the hardtop back on, it's just a matter of folding the front back 1 1/2" and the front hard top levers hold that part in place, and it gives it a factory look without whole Jtop being removed. As far as the Velcro complaints, I followed installation directions per step and it holds perfectly. No flapping, no reverberance.. but this is MY experience...YMMV

Holy hell. How to do you get it off once it’s all balled up. I feel like I’m just moving around the truck now and not getting it up. That stuff did dissolve it really well though.

I feel ya brother. Unfortunately, I don't have a good answer for that. I tried different ways. I'd use the plastic scraper get the adhesive balled up on the end of it then use a clean rag soaked with the adhesive remover then put the rag over the end of the scrapper and trap the adhesive on the scrap and lift off. Sometimes I could just use the soaked clean rag and trap the balled-up adhesive between my finger and pull off. At times I could just use the soaked rag and rub it over and over and it would pick up on the rag. I really didn't find a "good way" to get it off. How ever using a rag soaked in remover and changing it out frequently helped. Took me a long time and I too got that stuff everywhere. I'm really surprised I didn't need therapy when I was done. Good luck!

I have had mine on over a year no issues. I like the open air I have a convertible, but the braptor has black interior which really needs cooling seats lol. If I didn't live in the south east I probably would try a differently type of shade what was a bit easier on the remove/install part.
