Mods are eating up my payload capacity

I have the StinkyFab Sledgehammer bumpers and I think I lost 30-40lbs compared to the mod bumpers. After fully changing out my sliders, bash plates and bumpers for all SFR replacements, I am 80lbs heavier than I was with the stock plates/rails/bumpers (I haven't installed the SFR LCA plates that come with the full set). I can tell you that weight gain is from the sliders (very heavy) and the plates (heavier/more numerous than replacement). So you might look at how much weight you gained and see if you can find options that'll being that down 100-200lbs.

You might also just get rid of the winch, which is more hassle than it's worth if you only have it on for looks. E.g., if you do need to use it, there's a good chance it won't be ready and/or you won't have a good idea how to.

You cannot increase your payload.

You need to add lightness.

Other members have already covered it, remove all of your heavy junk.

You aren't bashing into rocks, why the heavy bumpers?

Get lighter wheels and tires.

Delete your spare and carry plug kit.

Remove your rear seats.

I've got a spreadsheet that I use to track what I've added and subtracted.

I'm at 286lbs added to my curb weight.

If you are adding weight in one place, remove it in another. Have you removed the rear seats? They are surprisingly heavy for how small they are.
I prefer low profile bumpers that are not heavy. It's not a farm truck that I'm pushing gates with.

Ok now I feel like I asked a dumb question but thanks for the great replies and education. I see what I need to prioritize now and wait until my needs change for the rest.

Hey man, you did not ask a dumb question. Only way we ever learn stuff is to ask questions; now you do know some more, so any additional research will help you even further.

We all started somewhere and it absolutely wasn’t at a place of knowledge unless gotten from your old man and only if you listened which is something many of us didn’t all the time.

Test out what you have, then upgrade as necessary. Who knows, while you’re out camping, you may catch the bug to do more on trails at some point.

Fact is, you’ve got options to drop weight and that’ll overall improve your experience.

People load up vehicles all the time, especially trucks, vans and SUVs, turning them into campers and overlanders. I've never seen it become a legal issue. But you have to do it correctly to stay safe.

Everyone is talking about suspension which is needed, but the other crucial upgrade is brakes. If you put enough weight on, you need to be able to stop when it's chugging along at 75 mph.

Also, you can drop a decent amount of weight with lighter rims, and swap out steel bumpers and skids for aluminum. More money, much lighter. Which will also help your mpg.

Also, losing the spare might seem tempting, but I wonder about balance with the beefer bumper and winch up front, I don't know for sure, but I think it's another sacrifice instead of a solution.

Remove the rear seats, roof panels, spare tire, factory exhaust, and doors, that will save you a bunch of weight.

Also, inflate the tires with helium.

I must live in a bubble.. to be honest I've never concerned myself with GVW? No one is going to check weight in any state I've been to... I don't overweight my vehicle on purpose, but I don't concern myself with it either, even with my F-150.
Maybe I was raised wrong?

FWIW I agree, never had any issue, never put this much thought energy into GVW...

How do I increase payload capacity on my Bronco with all of my mods? I have a stock 2023 Wildtrak.

I have a front bumper and winch plus rear bumper and tire carrier that will weigh almost 400 lbs! It doesn’t seem like I can add anything like a roof rack or RTT without maxing out my payload limit.

I do not do any heavy off-roading just enjoy nature and camping. I know nothing about suspension except what I read on this forum.

What is the right way to carry more weight?

I would go to a truck stop and get your Bronco weighed with a full tank and see what you have. My Badlands 2 door sasquatch weighed in (without me in it and a full tank) 5020lbs. Then you'll know where you stand...just a thought

Sorry, I have 2 organ transplants from 2 different deceased women. Liver and kidney. God bless their souls. I'm the 1st person, and they're the other two physically in my body.

Hopefully that resolves your concerns? Any other transplant people on here?
