4A or 2H? Which is the best?

Front axle disconnect should keep the front driveshaft from turning but the 4A transfercase models wouldn't have that.

You cant start the truck in sport automatically, but if I had it in sport and turned it off. Then came back and turned the truck back on, I get a message on the screen asking if I want to go back to sport. I just hit yes on the steering wheel and it kicks back into sport. But it also puts it into 4h even if I had it in 2h with sport on.

So yes and no...lol

My F150 KR with 170k miles has been in 4A since day one. Same with my BL with 14k miles and my wifes OBX with 11k miles. Set it and forget it.

The same reason I wouldn’t want to drive over 20 mph with my diffs locked. Extra driveline stress and resistance that can lead to a premature failure.

I am used to AWD in my WRX, my wife swears by it in her crossover.

Have had a lot of rain, I will have to test out 4A in my Bronco and Silverado.
I am hoping that it will help for highway driving in heavy rain.

I left it in 4A all winter and didn't notice any significant drop in mileage. I stick to 2A otherwise unless off-road.

My completely uneducated thought is that I'm saving the clutches for where I need them most.

Wife's Bronco Sport just sits in 4A all the time, I don't even know if you can put that in 2H. So did her "4WD" Explorer.

They both would happily switch between primarily FWD or RWD depending on the GOAT mode you have it in.

Now that's a different vehicle and transmission all together, but similar technology.

4A is basically AWD.

I am on snow covered roads about 6 months of the year, my village averages over 500 inches of snow per year.

(that’s over 40 feet of snow per year)

I just put it in 4H and drive whatever speed I want. IMHO winter tires are a far better investment than spending the money on 4A.

Doubt it all you want... I know math, for math is my ally, and a powerful ally it is.

My mileage is better in sport mode (probably due to my driving style), getting 23.5 mpg at 70+ mph in the Texas hill country is all the proof I need.

We have “less than ideal” roads up here in Alaska and I’ve noticed that 2H wanders less than 4A on dry pavement
