Just a few days from time I ordered, but I believe it shipped from Denver and I'm in Colorado Springs.

I changed the oil in the front/rear differential and replaced the fluid in the transfer case. Went with all Amsoil products. The quart easy bags are the way to go. No mess at all. Used 75w-110 in front and back and amsoil signature series ATF in the transfer case. My bronco is a 23 outerbanks sasquatch and I noticed that I didn't have a magnet on the drain plug for the transfer case. I installed the Ford Performance differential cover on the rear, so I just used the fill plug in the old differential cover and put it in the transfer case drain hole. Thanks to carbonsteel for all the great info. This has turned out to be one of the best Maintenance related threads on B6G.

I used the oem diff gasket. Took Carbnsteels advice though and ordered longer bolts. Somewhere in this thread he has a detailed list along with links to get the new hardware.

Longer bolts? Is the FP diff cover considerably thicker than the OEM one? I’m also about to perform this maintenance and cover swap and want to make sure I have everything I need. I’ve been watching this thread grow quick and also agree @CarbonSteel has put together a tremendous aid for us on here!

Cheers for the kind words.

The FP cover is considerably thicker than the OEM stamped steel one and the depth of the threaded bosses in the axle housing is 23MM from the gasket face to the bottom of the hole.

The OEM bolts are 20MM and with the thickness of the FP cover, it does not leave a lot of thread engagement. My rule of thumb is 2x the diameter of the bolt for engagement which given these are M8 bolts, I would want about 15MM or so of engagement. You will not have that with the 20MM OEM bolts.

EDIT - @Big Pony; the other thing is that I like the larger flange head bolts to spread the clamping force over a larger area (not that we need crushing force here), but the OEM bolts have smaller flanges.

Gotcha. Which bolts would you recommend then? Size? Source? Thank you!

Did you reuse the studs and plastic brake line clips? Got new 25mm bolts but hoping I can just reuse studs.

The stock studs will likely be too short if you use the OEM gasket.

IF you are very careful with the torque, it **may** be ok, but I would take it slow and install the studs after torquing the bolts so the gasket is crushed down some.

Does new cover come with the black gasket goo? You convinced me 75w-110 and 75w-140 for my 2.7l SAS Big Bend.

No, it only comes with a fiber gasket. The catch is that I have not found a replacement fiber gasket so you will likely have to go back to OEM at some point anyway.

May be easier to just buy longer studs...

When would you have to take it apart again if it has a fill and drain plug now. If it only has a future issue?
