Rear view camera recall issued for 2021 Bronco

My 2022 front view on the 360° cam is spotty at best-sometimes the front is on, other times it's black. I've been meaning to ask the dealer but keep forgetting. Lol

I also am having the same issue. There is always about a 50% chance it works for me.

Same here. '21 with 12" screen. Front cam is spotty. I really need to get it in to get it replaced.

Interesting that at least 4 of us in a 2 page thread have also experienced front camera issues. I wonder how widespread the issue really is

Yes. I was searching for the warning as it was buried on Page 6 in the Electronics sub-forum and really should have been posted in this current sub-forum (Issues, Warranties, Recalls).

I read this to say that recall 22c27 is still active for 8 inch screens but the software to complete it is "NOT currently available." I wonder if there's an ETA for it. If Ford were to cancel 22C27 for my VIN, would they send out a follow up letter?

I honestly forget mine has a backup camera. I learned to back fire engines in the truck bay in the early 90s when all we had was side mirrors. I cant back up a vehicle looking over my shoulder, I have to use mirrors. Yes, Im a weirdo

From the time I learned to drive, everything I drove had poor visibility. You had to use mirrors. I can't get used to using the camera. People need to be taught how to drive.

It is a safety recall. It won't get cancelled. Ford will fix the issue. If not by software, then via hardware with upgrading the 8" to 12" screen. Ford has had a year+ since the notices were sent which means they have known of the issue for longer. At some point, enterprising lawyers will see an opportunity to file a class action to force the remedy. All 8" screen owners are not getting updates either despite the Auto-Update feature on.

In May of this year, Ford mailed me an "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL REMINDER." It was number 22C27 - Rear View Camera Image Re-entry (4L mode). I scheduled an appointment with my dealer specifically for this matter. I was told the service department will need the vehicle for several hours and I couldn't wait for it. At 7 AM I was second in line on the service drive. The service department never contacted me during the day. When I arrived back just before closing I was told the recall was not completed because Ford did not provide the dealerships with the proper software for my vehicle -- 2022 Black Diamond 4 door with an 8 inch screen. Has anyone had the recall 22C27 completed by their dealer?

My dealer claimed to have done it, but they must have "penciled" it because the problem never went away. About a week later the recall hold notice came out. So now I am not quite sure if the recall will still show open on my vin, but at this point what does it matter? The comfort of knowing i am eligible for a fix which does not exist? 2 weeks ago I went on a trail ride in Mole Lake, WI, where I hooked up w/a guy w/a sweet 22 basesquatch. Funniest thing was when I was following him in 4L and could see through his backglass that I was on his screen! LOL...Ford humor!

Think this is a separate issue than the rear camera staying on in 4L. My '22 BD has the outstanding recall. And there is no official update to correct the issue. The update that is available is advised not to be done to those with the 8" screen.

I personally don't think it is that big of a deal as once the vehicle is cycled off the infotainment will reset. If I'm in 4L, I have way more distractions outside of the vehicle than the image projected on the infotainment screen behind me. But as it is a safety recall, Ford needs to correct it.

From the time I learned to drive, everything I drove had poor visibility. You had to use mirrors. I can't get used to using the camera. People need to be taught how to drive.

The only thing I use backup cameras for is lining up with a trailer or checking for kids/animals, I hate them otherwise. Beyond that I just turn my head and look for real and/or use my mirrors like I have for almost 40 years.

I like that the camera stays on longer, It actually helped when I was pulling logs down the path at our cabin for firewood. Easy way to keep an eye on a load you couldn't otherwise see.

The daughter likes that it stays on also when she is driving it. Helps her park it "just so".

It's not that it stays on forever, just until you hit a certain speed, which is still very low MPH anyways.

The whole thing is non-sense in my opinion.

It actually helped when I was pulling logs down the path at our cabin for firewood. Easy way to keep an eye on a load you couldn't otherwise see.

You are referring to the everyday behavior of the rear camera and the delay.

Next time you are in 4L (doesn't happen in 4H), engage reverse. Then drive forward. It will maintain the rear camera view. No delay. No speed threshold. It will turn off once you turn the Bronco off.

As I mentioned earlier, it is a not a huge safety issue for me as whenever I'm in 4L, I am more distracted by the outside environment and not what is shown on the screen. But it is a safety issue. All the VINs will have an outstanding safety recall associated with it. Even if people weren't concerned about the safety recall being corrected, it will still affect the value of your Bronco.

Mine will NOT turn off at any speed if the vehicle is in 4L (tried over 40MPH on some dunes in 5th gear). Only turns off if I a) shut the vehicle off, and restart it without shifting into R, or b) shift back to H. The main annoyance for me is that I cannot use OnX, or change my radio to another media source...or see what I am even listening too. Sure I can shut it off and restart, but when I am riding w/a group they kinda get sick of me stopping and jagging around w/it. When I got my Bronco I upgraded to the elite OnX package, and was totally looking forward to using it in Moab to learn my way around the trails out there. Even downloaded the offline maps for it...complete waste...all I ever saw on that screen was the guy behind me! Still not as bad as the infotainment system on my Harley tho. I do kinda wonder if there is a fuse for the APIM or something that would "reboot" it while the vehicle is running. Could maybe wire that to a switch that I could use to reboot it while the vehicle is running and in motion?

Right? I don't want to highjack the thread or anything, but does anyone know if this is a known issue with Ford? I have put off taking it in because I figure with my luck the camera will work fine on that particular day.

but yeah, mine will turn off after I speed up a bit. So I see the issue you guys are having.

Well, the different degrees of broken is 100% broke. Only in 4L after reverse will the rear view camera remain persistent while driving forward. It never turns off until the Bronco does. Some may never have realized that it is an issue as they never have driven in 4L. Most Broncos never even see 4H.

You can turn that feature on/off in the infotainment system. Reverse Camera Delay or something.
