don't you just hit up the Citi app and drop it straight into your bank account? You don't even have to wait for the Citi rebate check to arrive. Once it's issued, it's in your Citi account and ready for you to deposit somewhere.
I keep forgetting that. They remind me every year.

Now, the 2% executive reward, that's a different story.
You can use it to pay your membership fee. That's what I do. That way I still get points on my Citi card when I buy something.

yeah, that's the only thing you can buy with it that doesn't waste your Citi points.

Having come to a consensus that Costco gas is worth the membership, we're now discussing Costco--which is fine. Their synthetic motor oil gets enthusiastic reviews, but Costco members tend to be loyal with a degree of group think.

I appreciate the poster (a few pages back) who pointed out that Mobil-1 oil must specify pure synthetic for it to be synthetic. I just got a couple of cases at BJs--put it up for expected price increases.

Back to Costco: I appreciate the free air. I really hate dropping 4-6 quarters (or worse! scanning my credit card for a couple of bucks) at a gas station for a dose of air. Costco fills tires with nitrogen. Considering our atmosphere is 80% nitrogen, what does that accomplish?

Pressure stability. It doesn’t expand/contract nearly as much with temperature change.

It also doesn't leak down as quickly. Nitrogen is a larger molecule. But I've noticed my K02 tires don't seem to leak down much at all. Must be the thicker sidewalls.

Getting back to gas, it seems the consensus is that Top Tier is good, and lacking Top Tier one should add a detergent package such as Techron every few tank fulls.

I found "GumOut" fuel treatment (for carburators/valves/injectors on sale and bought a few bottles. I also have an 8-count of Techron coming from Amazon. I'm thinking, alternate to the two additives every several tanksful, and hit Costco as regularly as I can.

I'm looking for angel investors who'd like to get in my new startup, "Ultra Premium Al-Natural Free-Range Cruelty-Free Enviro-Friendly Extra Virgin Estate-Sourced 100% Pure-Placebo High-Performance Fuel Additive, perfect for Gas, Diesel, Aviation, Kerosine and Coleman Camp Lanterns." I've recruited Elizabeth Holmes as C.E.O.!

Make sure you include the correct amount of placebic acid. Also I understand the EPA has banned bullshitol. But the Chinese still sell it. So be careful where you source from.

but Costco members tend to be loyal with a degree of group think.
WAY too many of them treat it like a cult. It's insane.

Nitrogen is larger molecules, so the theory is that the gas tends to stay inside the tire more and leak out less. Eh. It's all marketing BS.

Sure, the Costco air station is nice. But there's no way I'd pass by the quarter machines just to drive to a Costco if I needed air.

So here's my take on Costco: yes, they sell tires--but they're not a tire store. Yes, they sell food--but they're not a grocery store. They have an optical department, but in no way are they a real optical shop. Etc, etc. They sell a lot of things, without being a true purveyor of those things. I would never use Costco for tires or related services, for example.

And the cult members who think it's Costco or bust--give me a break. They act like they cannot go anywhere else for anything. Weird, weird.

I buy my Michelins there. They have a killer warranty.

I just wait until they have a "buy three get one free" sale.

I get it.

My point is, they're not a tire store. Tire stores do MUCH more than vend and install tires.

For example, have you changed your wheel and tire size from what came from the factory? Don't take it to Costco. They won't do it.

They also are quick to deny repairs, and will use all sorts of excuses.

You will wait forever, despite having an appointment.

Those "free" rotations? Sure--just wait a few hours, we'll get to it. In the meantime, please feel free to browse our store.

I've had nothing but incredible service from Discount Tire, for example. And they will happily match whatever you find at Costco.

And "buy three, get one free" is everywhere--even the new car dealers have been doing it for several years.

What is a “pure synthetic”? Most would consider that to be a majority Group IV base oil lube of which Mobil 1 markets little to none. Is Kirkland/Costco selling a synthetic blend oil that contains significant group II base oil content without including the word “blend” on the jugs? I would love to see an example of that if so.

In addition to these questions, anyone know the actual source of Kirkland synthetic? In other words it is repacked Valvoline, or Mobile, or....?

It says right on the bottle, from Warren Distribution.

That all being said, good luck finding an MSDS on that. Mobil 1, though, it's easy to find.

Also, this thread is interesting:

https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...ot-certified-for-use-in-any-ford.29859/page-5

take from it what you will.

UPDATE: God forbid the Costco web site from 1985 gives you any details, but their phone app lets you see a full application chart for their oil.

And it turns out that their "Full Synthetic SAE 5W-30" meet the specs for the Bronco. And it's $35 for 12 quarts, plus shipping I suppose since they don't have it in warehouse...

Compare that to the Mobil 1 I bought on sale for $31 (I think) for 6 quarts.
