Picked up my Outer Banks Sasquatsh 2.3l last weekend, quite impressed. I’m new to Ecoboost and turbos so I may need some education here. Since day one I can hear a suction type sound when the turbo boosts to 7+ psi, the sound is quite subtle when the window is up but still noticeable. I never feel the car is under powered, can get 16 psi maximum at this point (haven’t floored the accelerator yet since it’s still breaking in). Is the sound the turbo whine?

Probably not. The turbo is a very high pitched wine. I have a 2024 2.3 and Don’t hear a suction Sound. I would check your air cleaner connections/piping to the turbo for tightness, and the cold air opening for blockage. And any other connections that attach to the turbo inlet piping. And where they attach to the intake manifold. If there is something loose it could pull dirt into the engine during no boost/vacuum which is at idle and decelerating.

I agree, check all your connections. This happened to me with a new car - intake pipe not properly connected.

Thank you for the responses! Yes, I will check the connections after work. The sound is high pithced so I might not describe it accurately. Should we hear the turbocharger working, especially under high boost?

This is going to depend on your hearing level. Some people can’t hear shit and just have no idea all the noises they are missing.
turbos make noise and the bronco is not well insulated. If you have impeccable hearing you might hear it fine. Now you still might have a loose connection if you hear the whoosh and not just the whine, so double check those connections. I can hear a whose from my big diesel air box and a separate whine from the big turbo. The Bronco I don’t, I also have hearing loss and the big T. So just because I don’t hear it in my bronco does not mean others can’t.

I think you're most likely hearing your turbo. It basically sounds like a mini jet engine from 4-10PSI, after which it turns into a "whoosh" from 10-20PSI when it pushes more air... at least in my experience. If you're able to build that much boost (even when being light on the pedal), you should be fine.

Thank you. I briefly checked the connections during lunch break, things that I could reach from above seemed to be tight and in position, will look into more details. I was trained in music theory for a few years, so my ears are pretty sensitive to sounds. BTW, your green Everglade looks amazing, that was what we initially aimed at but it lacks the heated steering wheel, which we will need here in upstate NY.

Jet is a good way to describe! The sound is very subtle and mixed with road and wind noise in most cases, I can hear it only in certain cases. I will have the dealership double check as I plan to have the oil changed at 1000 miles.

Yeah I don’t need the heated wheel here in FL, congrats on your new Bronco enjoy.

Well the intake and turbocharger hoses are pretty tight and all the way in. The only loose part I can find is the hose marked in the picture, I don’t know what it is, it’s quite looses but I can’t unplug it.

That's part of your high pressure fuel pump. I'd be careful messing around with that.

Thank you! Should it be loose? It seems that the hose can turn at the connection, so I can move it up and down.

It should pivot, the fitting is designed to rotate.

You need that just that much movement to gain access to the Sparkplugs during the HPFP Insulation Removal

and yes, you are hearing your turbo. This Twinscroll is a noisy one when you step into her

Thank you! I did some search, it appears to be the low pressure fuel line using a quick push on connector. Driving on the quiet country road is when I hear the turbocharger the most.
