Three transmissions and a lot of headache; It's time to sell my 2022 Black Diamond with a manual transmission.
I was so excited to buy a Bronco when Ford brought it back. I put my money down and wanted 15 months for delivery. A soft top, manual transmission, Eruption Green..I couldn't be happier.
I took delivery and right away there were problems. The temporary tags were taped to the soft top and warped the plastic. The front fender well and tires had some kind of paint overspray on them. The dealer was gracious and fixed the problems.
I was appreciative and moved on. About 12k in, the transmission sounded like a box of rocks. Six weeks later a new one was put in.
Six months later, same sound. The dealer rebuilds the transmission. That took three weeks.
At 50k, the transmission went again and was replaced. This time they got it fixed in a week.
The whole time, my dealer was accommodating. They seemed embarrassed more than anything.
I asked if the latest transmission might be a new and improved model so I could decide if I wanted to keep going with the Bronco. They simply could not confirm.
I decided to let go.
Ford, I am completely disappointed. Your company has built cars for over 100 years and still puts out substandard products. I thought you would knock it out of the park with the new Bronco. A great namesake in automotive lore, but nope, you dropped the ball.
Im sure many of you are having a great experience, I love seeing the modifications and pride of ownership. Unfortunately, I didn't get that.
Best of luck, I'm moving on from the Bronco and anything Ford.

…the transmission sounded like a box of rocks….
The “getrag rattle”. The transmission was always fully functional, the owner had different expectations around NVH. Like some others, he should have been in a unibody wagon such as a Ford Explorer from the beginning…

Hearing the Getrag rattle for the first time can be unsettling. This rattle is a common sound produced by Getrag transmissions, especially the 5-speed models found in E30s, BMWs, and GMs, when the car is in neutral and the clutch is not engaged.

The rattle disappears when the clutch pedal is pressed or the car is in gear. People often describe it as sounding like a bag of marbles, gear chatter, or similar metal rattling. It’s not a fault within the transmission; rather, it is the unengaged gears vibrating against each other.

If you’ve ever heard an 18-wheeler idle in neutral, you’ve likely heard a similar loud metal rattle. This noise is due to the play in the gears when not engaged, and it’s louder in an 18-wheeler because the gears are larger.

As the transmission accumulates miles, the rattle may become louder due to the gears and bearing clearances increasing slightly. This is not indicative of transmission failure but can be annoying and sometimes embarrassing.

The noise can be significantly affected by the type of transmission oil used. Thicker oil makes it harder for the gears and bearings to move around. A good solution is to mix one part 75w80 (or similar) with one part heavy weight oil like 75w-140 or 85w-140.

Using overall thicker oil will make shifting more difficult in cold winter weather until the transmission warms up, so keep that in mind.

It’s crucial to use GL-4 oil. While many oils in North America are labeled as GL-5 “compatible” for GL-4 applications, the composition of these grades is fundamentally different and not truly backward compatible.

My manual trans has started making the grumble at startup in colder weather (two year mark). While I don't like that it makes the sound, otherwise it functions without issue, and myself and family members enjoy driving the manual. Unless there is some issue down the road or the noise gets obnoxiously loud (I'm the only one who notices the noise) I'm hanging onto my Bronco.

OP sorry it didn't work out for you. There's nothing else like the Bronco and Wrangler, at least in the states. If you are up for another go the automatic seems solid.

Lotta lurkers here. Don't judge.
I don't get it, though. No one has to compete with @604Bronco for posting the most messages. But everyone has something to contribute.

Maybe people don't want to wade into the community politics of waving. But they can ignore certain forums and or members.

But just consuming content and not reciprocating their own knowledge doesn't help the community. Maybe someone is proficient at electrical, then jump into the sub-forum and help answer a question or two. Maybe they enjoy detailing a vehicle. There is a whole sub-forum where others are asking for input.

Just jump in. The water is fine.

Although I don’t hang out here as much as I used to, I still enjoy reading the posts and providing help where I can...

… Such as highly encouraging folks to not buy a hard top from ADV…

Lots of great friendships have been found on B6G over the years. You don't need to own a Bronco to participate here. But if you own a Toyota some folks will take a steaming dump on you 🤣

My point was that it shouldn't be a competition to post the most messages.

But rather everyone has something to contribute. Joining a forum 4 years ago and not contributing to the community doesn't help.
