Pre Collision Assist AEB doesn't work when you need it.

Being a First Edition I assume is a 2.7... which as I recently discovered had a totally different braking system from the 2.3. Yes, I realize this was possibly distracted driving, but I assumed it would brake too. I've had the alert go off, but never auto brake.

It sounds like this person bought their daughter a brand new Bronco. If that’s the case she is probably a new or inexperienced driver. Honda civic would have been a better choice.

Sorry to hear it OP, I hope everyone is ok. I've noticed the alarms like to kick up for non-car things on the street (trash cans last time), and I ....don't think the braking has ever fired up for me? I DO have it turned on.

I was following my Wife home on the freeway after taking delivery of my Bronco, she was driving her BMW Coupe and had a truck in front of her drop sofa cushions out the back. She hits the brakes as I was looking at my screen in the dash. (One of those, "Looked away for a second moments") Alarm goes off and the brakes apply scaring the s**t out of me. I couldn't even swerve since there was someone next to me. I slowed down in time, so it worked like it was supposed to! Now I would not just drive around willy nilly like it'll prevent me from crashing into someone in any situation, but it's nice to know it could help. (One small note, C/C was not on, however, I have noticed if I use the C/C, not the adaptive and say I am set at 75 and go into a sweeping turn, it slows the Bronco down to closer to 70, which I thought was interesting and good at the same time.) Glad the O/P's kiddo was ok.

No one is coming to save you. Never trust the tech with your safety.

You are responsible for your own. I really worry that people trust this crap too much. Call me a technophobe but I don't ever want to be a beta tester on these systems.

I hope your child is okay. Good life lesson, make it sink in for her.
Yes and we still have traffic fatalities despite all the airbags in the world. The safety tech is great and I welcome as much of it as possible but it can never replace defensive driving.

You must not drive much, obverse what is going on, and do not follow insurance indistry trends on accidents

First, thanks to everyone wishing my daughter is ok. She is fine.

Second, A lot of you people jump to conclusions way too early and read their own minds into things. There were 2 other passengers in the car that are vouching for her that no one saw it coming as it happened while she was checking traffic and she was moving into a left lane. She was not on her phone. She does not know about the Pre Collision Assist or AEB so no one was relying on this tech. It was more of a sense of security for myself thinking that it might help but in this case where it was supposedly designed to help it failed. No one is blaming anyone else other than the person that rear ended someone, and it could have happened to anyone. BTW it was our Base model that does not have the ACC, so no front cameras, just the radar and no it is not blocked.

I've got a Badlands 2.7 w/High Package. I've only had sensors/alarms go off before, its never applied the brakes on me. Next time I'm in the rig I'll re-inspect the settings.

I would be curious to know if the technology causes more problems than it solves, but that seems unlikely. I know plenty of people who've thought their path to pull out was clear, only for cross-traffic emergency braking to stop them from what would have been a very nasty t-bone.

I am pretty sure that the base bronco does not come with Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB). That option is available with the Mid-Package and above. The Mid-Package cannot be applied to the base.

My daughter’s first accident was her fault. When I learned that there were no injuries and only minor damage, it was time to celebrate!!! Why? Because she learned “It could happen to her!”. So, congrats to you for that lesson learned (I hope).

I also wanted to put a permanent sticker on the dashboard of both my daughter’s cars that said, “Please don’t kill yourself or someone else while driving today, it’s very easy to do.” Never did it, but soon I will have granddaughters to worry about!
