First, thanks to everyone wishing my daughter is ok. She is fine.

Second, A lot of you people jump to conclusions way too early and read their own minds into things. There were 2 other passengers in the car that are vouching for her that no one saw it coming as it happened while she was checking traffic and she was moving into a left lane. She was not on her phone. She does not know about the Pre Collision Assist or AEB so no one was relying on this tech. It was more of a sense of security for myself thinking that it might help but in this case where it was supposedly designed to help it failed. No one is blaming anyone else other than the person that rear ended someone, and it could have happened to anyone. BTW it was our Base model that does not have the ACC, so no front cameras, just the radar and no it is not blocked.
your base uses the windshield mounted camera since there's empty space in the square radar unit (unless you have ACC)

First, hope your daughter is ok. Hope your Bronco can be fixed.

Mine auto brakes very reliably when using adaptive cruise. In non cruise situations it alerts and brakes in about 80% of the situations where I think it should. Sometimes it brakes when I don’t think it’s warranted. But all told I love the tech. It’s saved my bacon more than once. Not anywhere near perfect but IMHO it keeps me much safer than if I didn’t have it. Won’t buy a car without it.
These cars and the tech are brand new... How are you driving that it's saved your bacon multiple times already??

You either have the worst luck ever, or...

I personally went in with forscan and turned that garbage off..
I respect what you have done. I have no issues with it what so ever.

I utilize my adaptive cruise control and lane keeping a lot however. Sometimes it over reacts and I worry about the traffic (Houston) behind me (all the impatient assholes) and I override it. That said, when it reacts….bumps the steering, or slows down, it IMMEDIATELY gets my attention, which is it’s major benefit to me.

99% of statements without a citation are false.

šŸ˜‚
having been "that guy" investigating car crashes since 1988 I can "citation" that 99.999999% of ACDA crashes are caused by drivers not paying attention to what is happening in front of them. Including the one when a 16 year old (on his phone) driving 55 MPH slammed into the back of my car sitting stopped at an intersection with brake lights on and a turn signal activated. A broken shoulder and detached bi-cep tendon later his mommy said that "he has only been driving for a week".

yeh if only that darn 'collision assist" crap worked properly. Ford screwed me again yappity yap......

Your base does not have a radar. AEB uses the camera up in the rear view mirror. The tech works, but not in every possible situation.

Not going to get into blame because that doesn't help anything.

In the case of the Bronco, ACC cars have radar, cars without have a camera in the rear view mirror housing (I have a low package badlands, I've received a message about the camera being obscured by snow/ice in the winter)

I had a warning come up and a tone sound the very first day I owned my Bronco because some kid in a Lancer was in my lane coming around a sweeping turn, so I can state for a fact it worked in my case. I don't believe it auto-braked at all, but it did display a warning and sound a tone.

If she's changing lanes, the AEB might not react. Especially if she's already partially into the other lane. It basically only looks straight ahead.

Mine brakes hard when I applied moderated amount of braking force while the crash avoidance assistance is flashing. It sort of like a braking force multiplier.

I sometimes slightly drive towards to the left hand side when slow drivers making a right turn. (yes I know... I shouldn't but there are really slow drivers out there driving me nuts) Warning come up.
If I don't do anything, it won't react.

There is one time a car in front of me braked really hard to avoid another car. I braked as well.
But man, the crash avoidance assistance braked even harder and kept the car stopped even I letting go of the pedal.

I’m just busting balls. Distracted drivers cause a lot of mayhem. We’ve fixed 3 rear bumpers in 4 years because of them. Including when they hit and run leaving us on the hook for the deductible.

You must not drive much, obverse what is going on, and do not follow insurance indistry trends on accidents
I drive a ton, observe way too much, and look at way too much data.

That being said, I also like to give people crap.

Mine has alerted a few times.
Did not auto-brake

While picking up my wife from the airport a little while ago,
Heard on the radio that a self driving vehicle went through two barricades and into wet cement šŸ˜†
Pre-Collision Assist has three levels.
1. Alert
2. Brake Support
3. Automatic Emergency braking

Just an "alert" would not activate the brake system

I have the most basic Base Bronco. It has the square black plastic case (item 2 in the diagram). Does that mean on my Bronco, it's just an empty plastic case with no radar?
