During an oil change I dropped a socket and took the front skid off to retrieve it and noticed this. How concerned should I be? Performance seems to normal, mostly sport mode. Regardless, going to the dealership Tuesday morning…

You sure that it is coming from the ic and not from somewhere up above? Not many ways oil can get into the ic except for maybe a bad seal on a turbo.

Yeah, it’s definitely seeping out of that hose connection

Doesn’t hurt to get it checked out though Ford told me that slight oily coating inside the tube is normal.

In the forums you’ll get people that say it’s normal and people that say it isn’t. Hard to know for sure what’s true so I’m just going with Ford on this one. I’m not a mechanic :(

Oil residue in the intercooler and charge air cooler pipes is completely normal. That being said, there is a seal at that quick disconnect fitting which shouldn’t allow it to leak out.

Sorry to bring up an old post but I found it doing a search. I am at about 36000 miles and pulled the skids off to look for leaks before its brought into the dealer for an oil change and a minor warranty issue where the HVAC does not turn on with remote start in the last used setting. While looking I found this leak which is more than seepage and collecting on the oil pan. Do you think this is the seal that you were talking about or should I be concerned about a turbo oil seal leak. 23 2.3 badlands non sas.

Hard to judge it by look at a picture alone. That does appear to be a decent amount, but I would just let the dealership diagnose it. Should be obvious if it’s a turbo issue or just a problem with that seal once they look into it more.

They checked it out and it was the seal leaky and bad enough they are keeping it until the parts arrive for it. Anything that I should be concerned about?

If that's all it is, I wouldn't worry about anything.
Once they fix it just keep an eye on it.

Definitely will do, I haven't had the best of luck with previous vehicles being properly being diagnosed with them in the past even though I mentioned what I thought it was and it ended up being. I was a mechanic in the late 80's and 90's so I do have some background, but these new vehicles with all the electronics and modules and stuff blow me away. If something is noted on the work order before warranty is up and ends up being something other than they repaired would that still be covered, example something other than this seal? Years ago it would be but not sure about today's warranties. Thanks for your time and input on this and everyone else's concerns, I see you on several different post and you are very helpful to the community. Your dealership is lucky to have you.

Typically no. Once the warranty is up, it's up. Even if it was mentioned prior to the warranty ending.
That being said, at the end of the day it would be completely up to Ford. Most of the time they're more than willing to help out. The whole repair may not be covered, but they will pick up some of it. Every situation is different.

No problem and thanks, I appreciate it!

Sorry for the late response- first time around the dealer said the hose wasn’t properly fastened. But that didn’t stop the seeping. Second time around, they replaced the hose, claiming the turbos and the pcv functioning as intended. Now I’ve noticed seeping on both hoses. Glad I got the extended warranty.
