New Recall #23S48 - REPLACE REAR VIEW CAMERA

They should recall the CarPlay losing audio and turn signal stock triggering the opposite side as well. So goddamn annoying.

Really, they for whatever reason bothered to use a totally different camera in the spare tire carrier for people with the 360' view?

It needs a different, wider field of view lense for the 360 degree view. Mainly for the Birds Eye view so that all the cameras can be stitched together correctly.
As opposed to the close range standard camera that only needs to see straight backwards.

I guess my point is, why spend that extra nickel and simplify the logistics chain. Why have one part when you could have two...

Both obviously work just fine as backup cameras, so why not just use the one part? And my guess, totally unsubstantiated other than it's a hunch, is that one costs $0.05 more than the other. But the time, effort, and labor involved in tracking and maintaining two different part numbers in a massive logistics chain probably doesn't factor in there anywhere.

Automotive production line logistics sometimes absolutely blows my mind.

I’m sure there’s a good reason they don’t use the 360 camera for the standard packages also. I doubt they would waste the money if there wasn’t. What that reason is I have no idea though

Every time you reverse the front camera comes on for the Birds Eye view. So it’s pretty noticeable when it goes out.

I have had the rear camera, seat belt, valve breaking for 6m or more lol
now the rear shock recall

the dealer keeps trying to send someone out to do the repairs for months now.

I was part of the previous round for this camera recall. I drug my feet because it worked fine and I didn't want to take time to bring it in. Eventually the dealer sent a mobile tech to my home to do it. The most unobtrusive and painless repair ever, 10/10.

How does this work when you have an aftermarket setup like the expedition 1 swing arm and bumper setup? Can i just take the camera myself and give them the old, as indont want the dealership taking my expedition 1 swing arm assembly apart.

So basically im SOL if i do the recall in that i have to trust the dealer on taking apart my rear tire carrier that mounts to the swing arm to get to the camera housing (its more involved then just unbolting it the way expedition 1 designed it) and reinstalling it all back exactly lined up and torqued to the specs i have? Maybe my best bet is to see if mobile tech will come, so i can have it taken apart already, and tell him to just plug it in and ill take care of reassembly.

You can purchase the recall parts yourself and install them if you want. But the recall will continue to be open.
The only way it will be closed or done for free is if a Ford dealership performs the recall.

Maybe some dealership will be more lenient and allow you to disassemble it/reassemble it. But that’s pretty risky for any dealership considering it’s a safety recall and their ass would be on the line if something went wrong with them not doing the entire job

Does this effect volume of avoidance system too? I backed into a car in my driveway with radio on and didn't hear alarms and really don't remember seeing anything on the screen.
