Mudflaps (yes I've searched and can't find a good answer)

Like 'em or not, I need mudflaps on my new Outer Banks. I've spent a lot of time looking at posts on here about them and I know I'll probably catch grief for posting another question, but here goes...

I've kinda narrowed it down to Mabett and IAG I-line for a little over $100, then there are the cheap Chinese ones less than $50 that look about the same (ie, flap design, installation hardware). Any input would be appreciated.

I have the IAG's and no issues for street use. If you plan on doing more than just a trail I'd look for something detachable. Outside of that I'm pretty sure the Mabetts and IAG are the same design and mounting points, probably the same with the knock-offs as well ... all are made in China.

Hey, thanks for the info. I don't really do any gnarly off-road stuff. I have to drive on gravel/dirt roads a lot and need something to (hopefully) reduce the amount of rain/mud/snow crud on the vehicle. I installed them on my Wrangler Rubicon and Tacoma TRD, and they do help.

Yeah, I know they all come from "over there" and are very similar. Given the big difference in price, just wondering if there's much difference in quality. The old "you get what you pay for" thing.

My problem with "half the price straight from China" is that they've gotten very very good at making things that LOOK exactly like the ones you'd pay twice the price for, but actually are not any good at all functionally.

I bucked up and got the expensive ones (gatorbacks I think) from the Ford site. No regrets. They've taken a beating (especially during winter) and still look good. I think I actually like the way my bronco looks with them opposed to without.

Had a couple people comment to me they tried cheapo knockoffs from Amazon and some said they wouldn't even fit, although they looked identical. Then they thought it wasn't worth the trouble to return them. I will say those people got real mud flaps, which is how we ended up talking about them (I asked how they did off road).

yes. Pay the extra to have someone reliable like IAG et al. vet these things and stand behind them.

Always remember, it's the cheapest man who spends the most--as you point out.

I have the Rek Gen ones and really like them. I did re-drill the holes in the rear ones to bring them up a few inches higher.

if you have a crash bar, make your own like I did. You can custom cut to any size you want. Mine are stout and perform perfectly.

We installed the Mabett/IAG type mudflaps and used them for a week or two. Finally decided we didn't like the way the mounting brackets mount to the fender and extend into the active fender well area (both front and rear). A good hit to the bracket could damage the fender. The vast majority of mud-flaps simply screw/bolt into the fender or nearby plastic trim pieces. Great for ease of installation and lowering costs.

Finally went with the Rokblokz, which to my knowledge, are the only Bronco mud-flaps where both the front and rear mud-flaps are 100% frame mounted. Nothing is attached to or supported by the fender or anything else in the wheel well area. They can be removed quickly, cover the full width of our SAS tires, are extremely flexible and very hard to damage. The XL Long versions hang very low and provide excellent rock protection.

I have Broflaps on my 2 door Basesquatch. I like them. Paying boutique prices for mud flaps is silly.
