I have two things that are on the near term to-do list — coating the exterior & installing Weathertech mud flaps on all 4 corners. I plan on removing the flares to do the coating. Would it be any easier (or harder) to do the mud-flaps while they’re off?

You need to install the WT mudflats with the flares on.
