Anyone try Gyraline out on their Bronco? Not sure if it would even work on the Sasquatch wheels cus of the rings getting in the way of the tool and needs a flat surface.

Not a bad price however to try it out. Looks like it will do thrust angle, caster, toe, and camber.

What is the use case for this? DIY alignments? I guess if you're trying to recover some room with bigger tires (a la Tinkerer's Adventures video). I'm not sure I'd trust doing that myself.

I think it's a clever idea and very plausible. It just depends on two factors, the accuracy and repeatability of the sensors in your phone, and how good at you are at being consistent in placing your phone.

Their four point adapter and methodology will help keep things consistent if you, the user, have the right temperament. And if the sensors in your phone are accurate and consistent enough. The measurements have to be repeatable.

They used an iPhone 13 Pro they say was "Gyraline-calibrated," whatever that means. I'm thinking the steps are included in the instructions. That doesn't mean every smart phone would be accurate and repeatable enough.

Apple's Core Motion system uses a gyroscope and accelerometer to estimate attitude. Gravity provides a reliable vertical reference to calibrate the accelerometer, so the question is gyroscope drift. It's not a problem if you're not expecting to keep a long term reference. Makers of Android phones may use other methods that may or may not be as reliable.

They rely on differential measurements which can cancel a lot of errors. For example if your phone is off by one degree, but it's consistently off, their method would cancel out the error. The other source of error would be how consistently you can place their adapter. If you're off by even a little bit, or your wheels aren't true, that could be a source of error. It's like learning how to use a feeler gauge, you need to be consistent to get good results.

Here's a way to test your phone before you spend the money.

There's also a fairly simple experiment you could perform to characterize your particular phone, independent of Gyraline: put it in a rigid fixture on a stable surface, repeatedly remove and replace it, rotate the fixture 180°, and compare readings. The reversal measurement lets you separate a substantial part of the phone/fixture zero error from the actual surface angle. That would tell you considerably more than the nominal specifications of whatever system your phone happens to use.

One final thought. I keep my iPhone in a leather case. It would probably be a good idea to remove your phone from whatever case you have it in before using it with the Gyraline. It would remove one source of error.

I wouldn't trust it with any bead lock wheels unless the clamps or trim rings were removed. You could solve the problem with the Sas wheels by removing the trim rings first.

I've been thinking a bit more. One of these might be a good idea for club purchase. Members could check their alignment after a hard run, or maybe replacing a tie rod in the field.

The app is free on Apple's App Store but you have to register to use it. Probably the same on the Android store.

Or you could fabricate your own fixture. Their fixture makes it easier and helps assure repeatability.
