I was curious how the auto trans shifts after putting on the Ford Performance Tune and how big of an improvement it is to the shift logic and if using 91 octane is fine with the tune as where I live 91 is the highest octane I can get.

I have the tune on my 24 Raptor. I did not notice a huge difference but it is a Raptor. The tuner is not as nice to work with like a SCT Scan 4 or other aftermarket ones. The touch screen does not work well and the laptop app is from 1980. It does shift more firmer and more aggressive over all even in normal mode. Sport mode is lots of fun. The tuner says at least 91 so you should be fine. Add a K&N filter for another easy add on to complement the tune if you don't have one all ready.

Thank you for you input, where did you find that it is at least 91 as I couldn't find that info on Ford Performances website.

I could not find anything on the Ford Performance site or in the instructions but Ford Performance specifies that their calibrations, including those for the ProCal tuner, are designed to achieve optimal performance and engine durability. While the exact octane requirement isn't explicitly stated in the general ProCal documentation, it is commonly understood that high-performance calibrations like these typically require 91 octane or higher gasoline to ensure the best results and avoid potential engine issues.

If your not going to run premium fuel then you will not get the full performance of the tune.

I understand that, was just unsure if 91 was fine.

The tune makes a significant improvement in the shift profile, very noticeable.
91 octane is acceptable, but 93 is preferred to maximize performance..

It is mentioned in the fine print - I linked to it in another thread around here somewhere, if I can remember I will dig it back up. 91 octane is the minimum for ProCal

Living in CA 91 is all I can get around here -
I’ve put 46k miles on with it and no issues yet. That said, looking at the tuning, if I could get 93 I do have room for more performance if I could get it

91 is fine. That all we have here. I have the 2.3 and it made a big difference. Shifting seems firmer.

I think the updated shift schedule is a good upgrade.

From the ProCal instruction sheet:

FORD PERFORMANCE CALIBRATIONS ARE DESIGNED FOR 91 OR HIGHER OCTANE FUEL. IF YOU HAVE LOWER THAN 91 OCTANE FUEL IN THE TANK, WAIT UNTIL YOU ARE ABLE TO PUT 91 OR HIGHER OCTANE FUEL IN THE TANK PRIOR TO PROGRAMMING. FORD PERFORMANCE RECOMMENDS THE USE OF 93 OCTANE FUEL IF AVAILABLE IN YOUR AREA

When you say shifting seems firmer, what do you mean by that? That it shifts more harshly, or it just shifts better and holds gears longer?

Not harsh at all. Just more of a positive shift. Definitely holds gears a little long.
I get what you are saying, thank you, sounds like exactly what I am looking for.

91 is fine and the shift tune is great. Less slush. More positive engagement. Better shift points. I would not go back.

I did it on my 2022 Badlands 2.7 and absolutely love the shift schedule and overall performance gains and throttle response.
I drove a friends 2.3 manual Badlands and was extremely impressed by the performance gains and throttle response as well.
I think it's well worth the money.
