Ha ha. 4 door of course. He and I are both 6'5" and if he's an amateur.. I'm the beneficiary. Dude ordered and waited 9 months for his 2022 Badlands Sasquatch. As we all know, it's entirely possible that it was mom who didn't approve of the car seat fit and forced the switch. Either way, I got the Bronco, no wait, and he now drives a Raptor.

I installed on my 2.3 and it caught all kinds of oil/water. I tried to go half an oil change period before emptying and it was full to the baffle. I would check it every month or so to be good. As a note, I noticed a drop in engine performance when full. I have a 2.7 now and will install. I'm just debating on if I need it on the CCV side too or just the PCV side.
If you live in wet/humid area like PNW, the aluminum can acts as a condenser, which is why it collects so much watery slug. That water is being introduced into the system by the catch can, and wouldn’t be there if you didn’t use a can. So really it’s creating a problem, not solving one. This is overall dangerous for the engine if you forget to empty it, hence your performance drop and why the vehicle does not include one from the factory. This is why I won’t install one.

6'5" that changes things a bit and I would bet money the mother had some sway, as my wife still thinks my Bronco "doesn't work for our family," even though I found the setup that fits!!!

You're correct though, no losers technically in the story. :ROFLMAO:

Now back to me stressing over the main topic of the thread and to stop hijacking it. Do I really need a catch can? SMH.......

For most of Ford's post 2018 engines, there's reportedly not much benefit. But I also have a 2017 Mustang 5.0 Coyote and the first thing the Mustang-driving sales person told me on close was to install an oil catch can, and that's been a great benefit. Since my Bronco came with the RXP kit, I installed it.

No, not at all. The hack is all about accessing the ECU / computer to remap the program logic for better performance, higher boost, turbo upgrades, ect...

Currently, there are only modules that you can install that piggyback onto the ECU module' s program, faking it out to get a bump up in HP and torque. Last I looked they are claiming up to 60 hp at best on 93 + octane.

Mishimoto is good stuff!!! - Disclaimer.... I'm just a customer and with no affiliation to them. LOL...

The 6 Gen 2.7 Ecoboost by design does not create enough oil vapors needing catch cans until you upgrade your boost pressure above OEM specs. This is a very basic explanation and trying not to get into the Why, the How and the Bcuz level of details.
Ok, so I created an account on mishimoto and put the dual catch can on my wish list. Where do we find the ECU hack?

It will be a Happy day then!!!!👍👍

Here is my install. Remember, it's not plumbed up ncuz we don't need it.

Hey @Bellime - We have had a handful of customers with 2023 2.7L Bronco's get a P051B code with our PCV + CCV kit (the complete system). So far, we believe the CEL is isolated to the CCV side because customers just running the PCV kit are not having issues.

There's a solid amount of info in this thread here - HELP!! need to remove the CCV line to double oil catch can

2021-2022 2.7L Broncos appear to be good (no complaints from those model year Broncos). For 2023 2.7L Bronco's, it appears Ford added a Crankcase Vent Sensor somewhere on the engine (not in the CCV hose). It's possible it's very sensitive and could be upset when a catch can is added in line of the CCV system. We have been on the search for a 2023 2.7L Bronco to help us R&D at our New Castle, DE Engineering Facility. So far, no takers, but we are still on the search.

@Ducati1098 found an interesting piece of data from Ford:
I believe this is a Ford issue, not a Mishimoto issue. Ford just released this SSM this morning.

SSM 51706 2023 Bronco - 2.7L - Illuminated MIL With DTC P051B
Some 2023 Bronco vehicles equipped with a 2.7L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P051B stored in the powertrain control module (PCM). PCM software is currently under development to resolve this condition and is scheduled to be available by 30-Jun-2023. Monitor OASIS for updates and schedule a follow up with the customer when the software becomes available.
Hope that helps!

@Mishimoto So if I read this right, my ‘22 Bronco 2.7L, 4dr, OBX won’t have the issue of the CCV. I am currently running with Whipple IC, aFe Hot and Cold charge tubes and Borla S-type exhaust with the Ford Performance Tune. Still plan on a future upgrade to the intake and filter box, as this will complete the upgrade of breathing well.

Now the question of the addition of the Catch Cans? Some say that this will have very little benefit, but with my changes/upgrades is these Cans going to help the longevity of my beast?

Hey @Bellime - We have not seen 2022 2.7L Broncos with the CEL, so I believe you should be good.

From our testing, we saw collection in both PCV + CCV cans. The PCV system generated more blow-by, which makes sense because the majority of your driving is under normal conditions. During normal driving, the PCV valve opens, allowing air to flow through to the intake manifold. When you go WOT, the PCV valve closes completely, allowing air to pass through the crankcase vent (CCV) side.

Whether or not a catch can is "needed" a hot topic. Our experience has been, yes, they are helpful for the longevity of engine life.

Catch cans are needed on 2.7/3.0/3.5 eco boost, as it’s a closed system the oil/residue build ups in the lower portion of the inter cooler, then the charge tubes build up, etc. (Ford’s Fix is to drill a hole 1/8” hole in the bottom of the intercooler cap to let it drain. They state the psi drop from the small hole isn’t enough to cause an issue.)

I’ve done 5 or 6 intercoolers and 4-5 pairs of turbos on 2015+ F150’s with the 2.7. The gunk that comes out is horrendous…I’ll see if I can find any recent photos. Anywhere from 90-150k too

Installed. Lethal was great on service, as the Ford kit was missing one of the brackets, so I got half installed. Then the missing bracket arrived. Went to install it, dropped the driver side bracket and spent 30min in awkward positions to fish it out from between steering and suspension parts. Driver side OEM lower hose connection was tough with the orange end hose. Anyhow, job done.
