Why would they develop a catch can for the 2.7 when it already has port injection? Build one for the 2.3. I might actually use one if Ford builds an official licensed product, otherwise, I'm not messing with it.
This is my understanding too (limited understanding)...But I thought the 2.7 did not need a catch can?

I'm skeptical about it honestly.

BUT... curiosity got the best of me and I installed it on my 2.3L Bronco over the weekend. Going to run it for 3-4 months until my next oil change and then I'll make a post once I get the results.

If I don't "catch" any oil in the 2.3L catch can then my hunch is you won't need it on the 2.7L given it is port injected. BUT, the strange thing about the 2.3L catch can is output is pre-turbo rather than directly into the intake manifold. Not sure if the 2.7L kit is the same (I assume it is), but if I catch a bunch of a gunk maybe it's worth it just to keep the turbos a little cleaner? Not sure.

We shall see.
I was curious why this is mounted in this location as opposed to the PCV/Intake like UPR and Mishimoto did.

I get a decent amount of oil sludge in my UPR. Enough that I’m happy to have it installed since 8k.

Edit: wow, so you’re running both? Interested to see your results in a couple thousand miles.

So, I'm a day 1 reservation and followed n posted on if catch cans were needed for a Gen 6 Bronco. Now Ford is saying yes....? Ridiculous!!!

Unless you are running higher boost, it is not needed. IMO....

I have Mishimoto dual catch cans installed (mounted) but, not plumbed up since the hack into the ECU isn't done yet allowing for higher boost pressure.

Maybe it's a sign the hack is close....🫰🫰

I’m not a mechanic or super knowledgeable about this stuff but what are you talking about with the hack? Is there something wrong with how the mishimoto installs?

While not on the 2.7 but here are some interesting findings about dual injection.

I installed the Mishimoto catch can on my 2.3L and it definitely catches blow by oil on an ongoing basis. This is an inexpensive addition that will pay for itself moving forward without a doubt!

No, not at all. The hack is all about accessing the ECU / computer to remap the program logic for better performance, higher boost, turbo upgrades, ect...

Currently, there are only modules that you can install that piggyback onto the ECU module' s program, faking it out to get a bump up in HP and torque. Last I looked they are claiming up to 60 hp at best on 93 + octane.

Mishimoto is good stuff!!! - Disclaimer.... I'm just a customer and with no affiliation to them. LOL...

The 6 Gen 2.7 Ecoboost by design does not create enough oil vapors needing catch cans until you upgrade your boost pressure above OEM specs. This is a very basic explanation and trying not to get into the Why, the How and the Bcuz level of details.

Okay so if this will help the engine last longer why is it a Ford Performance upgrade? This should either be installed at the factory or a better price point.

Interesting, so the 2.7 still has carbon issues, even with dual injection. I guess it’s not a huge issue anyway, since valves need adjustment 100-150k. Im happy with the 2.3 though. No catch can for me.

As the title states, Ford has released a version of their catch cans for the 2.7 Eco engine. What is interesting it is for both sides. They have a can for each. The price, 625$ Oof!

What are your thoughts on this? I know we have been round and round on rather a catch is needed for the 2.7, with the direct and port injector system, it's interesting that Ford has released this.

Thoughts?

My first question is how do you empty them? Do you have to completely disassemble them for that?

I had these style catch cans for my GT350. To empty you remove the top screws, and the part that holds the oil slide out. You can then just empty it.

I did not even do that. I have an old turkey baser that I use to suck up the oil. I then put it into my old measuring cup to get the usage. That was the way I did it until I sold that vehicle. The catch can on my GT500 is return system so it never needs to be emptied.

I installed on my 2.3 and it caught all kinds of oil/water. I tried to go half an oil change period before emptying and it was full to the baffle. I would check it every month or so to be good. As a note, I noticed a drop in engine performance when full. I have a 2.7 now and will install. I'm just debating on if I need it on the CCV side too or just the PCV side.

The probable reason is that this is something that needs to be actively monitored and emptied by the consumer.

he had 2 small children and the baby seats didn't fit in the back without the front seats being uncomfortably forward.
Amateur......

Is it a 2 door that you bought from your friend? I get 3 kids in various forms of car seats in the back of my 4 door WT no problem. (The rear facing kid, is even behind me, 6' driver.)
