Mt navigation system is up for renewal. I am tempted not to renew and just use Google maps.
Any suggestions please?

While I primarily use Waze, I did just renew mine. Took a few trips up to Northern Michigan last summer and there were a couple times where the there wasn't any cell service and ended up using the built-in navigation.

I may be wrong, but I think the only thing you lose by not subscribing is the turn-by-turn route guidance, the maps are still there. So, pending your preferences, may not be worth the subscription cost. Personally, I rarely use the guidance system, I just navigate using the maps.

I never used mine while it was still active. I've since thought about turning it back on. I was headed out to one of the forest service roads here, and I am not familiar with the area. Used Waze as usual, but then I lost signal, and wasn't sure what turns needed to be made. I swapped over to the built in nav eventually, which helped but enlightened me to the possibility that I might have to do some navigation without cell service. I've not paid for it /yet/ but I think it would probably be a smart pick up as a backup plan.

Don't pay for it, boycott any stupid subscription service.

While not a huge fan of AI and all the assist nannies (I'm old and like the feeling of being in control and imagining my vehicles need me actively engaged with them ... a symbiotic relationship, if sorts), I noted on my drive yesterday, while I kept my eyes on the road and hands on the wheel, Alexa faithfully followed commands to change my satellite radio station, adjust my thermostat control by +2 degrees, and provide guided nav directions to my destination.

On tomorrow's drive I'll see if I can use voice commands to toggle my cruise control for the desired set speed and switch between Normal and Sport transmission modes.

Just the same, I think I'll renew the connectivity package this Fall.

I rarely if ever leave cell signal, so google/waze are my go to on apple carplay. And the few times I’m on the trails, I’m using onX, so there you go.

Havnt used mine yet - I use Apple Maps via the wireless CarPlay instead..
I really dont see the point of paying for the built-in nav if you have a phone that connects to the console and can use a map app..

This is my suggestion.

If you are worried about cell coverage (a lot of folks here are) - I'd bring up two points

1) Almost every phone map service lets you downland and use offline maps - many for free. Why people don't do this, boggles my mind. I just downloaded the entire state of California and don't worry about it. (and if I'm taking a long road trip, I download wherever that is too).

2) Starlink if you are that worried. Only thing that makes you lose service there is being stuck under an overpass, and a $5 subscription gives you unlimited (not fast, but fast enough) data, which will work for maps, texts, wifi-cellular calls, Zoom meetings, spreadsheets, email, web browsing, Spotify, Sirrius app, Pornhub, Grubhub, Stubhub, and whatever else you may need out on the trail.

I only used it a few times while it was free after purchasing the Bronco. I mainly use CarPlay and Google Maps. GoogleMaps lets you download off-line maps so you can still navigate and see the map when you lose cell signal and only have GPS. Plus Google Maps has surprising amount of off-road trails you can navigate.

I wish I could change the Nav button on the SYNC screen to something else

Buy a Garmin. The 6-inch model fits pretty nicely on the Bronco's dash and frees up your main screen for other uses. True, people will laugh at you for being a geezer, like they laugh at me. But those Garmins still work really well: They have a UI that IMO is more useful than Google's (though admittedly not as up-to-date on nearby restaurants, etc.), they don't require cell service, and they have lifetime map updates.

I don’t see a $5 subscription option on their website. Do you signup for one of the regular Roam plans and then change to Standby for $5/mo and can stay in that mode indefinitely?

Its a very poor nave app with useless voice recognitipn iys like a CN product circa 2010.

google and waze are great throuh waze started sharing data wi LE and city where im at so deleted it. No newd since Bronvo wont do 140 like.mustang where it was useful.

If so.remote just use a map.or plug in sat.nav or my device yhat has sat connection....i dont get that remote though much and usually only has a couple trails.

I only drive to places where I've already been. With all that extra brain power, I use it to pay attention to the road and my surroundings. I don't need to talk to some clanker named Alexa, because I'm always filming audition reels for Lincoln commercials... alright, alright, alright.
