I am looking at replacing the Axle assemblies in my Bronco, and hoping to find something in a yard, to save a little coin vs buying aftermarket/new. I tried searching but did not find any part number lists that would help.

Does anyone have a list showing what the different factory numbers mean? Is the axle tag accurate for what ratio and differential? FDU and Rear axles would be great. Seems the shaft PNs are out there to find.

Here are some examples: MB3W-3B079-NEG
Ford Bronco Ford Axle Part Numbers 1771518926407-kr
Ford Bronco Ford Axle Part Numbers 1771519037273-x2

They seem straight forward, but then I see one like the one below, that they are claiming is 4.46:

It's possible that it was regeared, and in that case the sticker wouldn't be accurate any longer - but unlikely. Ratio on the sticker is likely accurate otherwise.

Also, you are going to see an Engineering number on the sticker. That isn't the same thing as a Part number. It gets confusing, I won't pretend to understand exactly why, there can be several different Engineering numbers under the same Part number.

The big thing to look out for here, apart from the various ratios (which you have to match, I'm sure you know, but it bears mentioning for others who may read this) - there are 3 different FDUs that get used in the Bronco.

All STD (no ELD) are the smaller Dana 35 m190 front end. They are in the higher gear ratios (3.73 up to 4.46). None of them have a locker. There are two variations: one with a Front Axle Disconnect (FAD) and one without that got used when paired with the Full Time 4WD Transfer Case. The FAD is a small motor on the axle tube. If you currently have an FAD, you can move to one without but it requires some programming to clear a fault code related to the FAD. If you do not have an FAD, do not get one with it (you could make it work but you probably don't want to). This has smaller diameter CV axles than the m210, but I believe both the FAD and non-FAD use the same CV axles.

All ELD FDUs are Dana 44 m210. That's a larger front drive, all of them have a locker. It came in lower ratios from 4.46 up to 4.70 from the factory and 5.38 from Ford Performance. It requires different CV axles. It will bolt right in place though. None of the m210s have an FAD. No software change is required (unless you are moving from a FAD)

So:
m190 w/ FAD, no ELD, smaller diameter axle
m190 no FAD, no ELD, smaller diameter axle
m210 no FAD, w/ ELD, larger diameter axle

I just went through this looking for a new front axle to upgrade to a M210 with locker. I looked everywhere I could think to look online and could not find a used one cheaper than buying a new one from Ford. Ebay, FB Market Place, multiple websites that look through salvage yard listings, nothing was cheaper than new. Ford often runs 15% to 20% off specials on their parts website, and offer free shipping to the dealership. All the used axles i found wanted $300-$500 in shipping alone negating all savings going used and most required delivery to a location with a loading dock. Unless you get lucky and find one local to save on shipping (the salvage yards around me are a joke and wanted more for a used axle than Ford wants for a new one), don't over look going the new route.

I found one on here, but that was good fortune. They get listed from time to time.

I have a m190 4.46 w/ FAD sitting in my garage right now if it can do you any good. It has a few miles on it though, but worked when I pulled it. Would cost a fortune to ship though.

Brings me to a question that I've wondered about... does the Ranger have the same axle & FDU as the Bronco?

My understanding is that the Ranger has the M190 FDU. Not sure if it would swap though. Also not sure what the Ranger Raptor might have.
