My 2.7 2022 Bronco had the typical 2-5 second cam phaser rattle after cold start (more than 4 hrs of sitting).
After a deep dive into this annoying issue and weighing my options, I decided that removing the engine under warranty was not going to work for me. Too many disturbed systems and still might fail to resolve the issue.
That said, and after reviewing the owners manual were it warns against engine oil additives, I wanted to share that I used 4oz of a popular friction reducer added to my latest 6 qt oil change.
I am happy to report the cam phaser issue is completely gone. The Bronco has so far sat for up to 3 days between starts. It appears the friction reducer leaves sufficient lubrication in the cam phaser assembly to keep things lubed and quiet.
This alternative worked for me. YMMV
