As a new entrant to the world of removable doors, I unfortunately caused a few chips/scratches while doing the process solo. I used the two tiny rubber fender protectors, but obviously they did not provide the coverage necessary.

I went over to the local hardware store and purchased some cheap clear plastic tubing with a 5/16" inner diameter and a 7/16" outer diameter, and spliced it down the middle. It worked like a charm, and I think this solution can help prevent me from doing any further damage.

Here's a photo of one on the body side, but when I do remove/reinstall the doors I slip a length on both the door and body side.

How did you make the slit straight? Somehow every time I try to slit tubing the cut meanders all over the place

Squeeze the tube between your thumb and finger a little ways from the end. Then grab the end with the other hand. Then pull it through your thumb and finger. The friction will create some heat and straighten the tube. Do this as many times as it takes, it will become relatively straight. Or maybe more relaxed is a better term.

I did it with scissors, but I'd recommend using a razor. It wasn't perfect, but it didn't end up giving me any trouble. Being able to thread it on a

I've also seen where using a split pool noodle for the bottom of the door is helpful as well.
