I just got an OBX and live in Massachusetts. I’ve been driving FWD and AWDs my whole life and didn’t think about this ahead of time except figured the Bronco has 4x4 and I’ll be fine. I noticed I don’t have 4A in mine and worried about general winter driving when the roads aren’t fully full of snow, but not fully dry either. Slippery mode isn’t really made for this condition so I assume regular normal is the way to go and that’s not FWD. I guess I’m worried about RWD.

This concern probably seems silly to those that have been driving 4x4 a long time.

Am I overthinking this and just being a snowflake? 🤘 Pun intended.

OBX has the Sand/Snow GOAT mode available for a little peace of mind. For general winter driving, in most cases 2H will be sufficient, even on partially covered snow/slush/wet roads. I typically never use 4H unless there is full snow pack, or drifting snow. You'll be fine..just get out an practice when the first snow storm hits.

If you have never driven a RWD vehicle in slippery conditions, you will have a learning curve. Having 4A would be preferred. But you'll adjust. You might want to take some time on a Sat/Sun in a school parking lot to get used to vehicle dynamics under those conditions.

Yes you did, but your mistake wasn’t getting a bronco with 4A, it was starting a new thread on a topic that was just covered.
Thanks for your oversight. How does the world exist without your oversight? God forbid I did t see a similar thread ahead of time. Oh the humanity.

Exactly, maybe I’ll create this thing that looks like a magnifying glass and put it in the corner for people to search the whole forum.

Also from MA. Until this bronco, I have always had 4x4 SUVs that were part-time 4wd (meaning that you only put it in 4wd when you need it because it makes the front and rear drive shafts spin at the same speed so you shouldn't use it in tight turns on pavement). So you are left driving a RWD car 95% of the time, except for when you are in deep snow. But what about a slippery highway? Traditional wisdom is that you don't run in 4H for hours and hours. This has ALWAYS seemed a bit ironic that I'm the one in the SUV that is supposed to have good traction, but I'm one of the the only people on the road driving around on snowy highways in RWD. So yes, the old school 4WD SUVs have always seemed a little vulnerable in that way when driving on wet/slippery roads with light snow. 4A on the bronco lets the front and rear spin at different speeds so you can leave it in 4A on all of the time without damage, or fear of having no traction while trying to pull out in traffic. In my opinion, as an everyday driver in New England, I would definitely pay more to have the 4A option. But offroad, or in southern states, none of the above really matters.

Damn people, it's the OP's first day and first post, give em a break. I think ya'll made your point about reading the Iowa thread already. I'm sure none of the rest of you have ever committed such a henious offense that deserved this lynch mob.

Yes, use this sites search and you only will have about 8500 posts that have nothing to do with the topic you desire to sift through. In the future ask away, just like you did. The overwhelming majority will try and provide you an answer or opinion.

This, just find an empty parking lot when some snow hits and go slide around a bit, figure out what your vehicle feels like when it lets go, it really is useful
