So long story short I’m a reservation holder from 5/21…. Seems like it’s been forever but not as bad as most. I have a cyber orange, 2.7, lux, mic, MGV squatched badlands on order and have seen no movement on it, dealer won’t even tell me how far back the line I am.

I had another dealer friend contact me today and said he had an reservation holder drop out and has a Cactus grey, 2.7, lux, mic, leather, tow, squatched badlands he can sell me for 5k over msrp of 63k.

am I crazy for wanting to drive to my dealer for this right now?

did I mention tow?
I reserved 3/21 and picked up my Bronco 3/22. Switching to soft top around 11/21 got me a build date within weeks. If I were you, I’d switch to soft top, save the 5k markup and spend it on the hard top in a year, and then you’d get what you really want. That’s what I did… I’m driving my Bronco and I’ll put a MIC top on in a year. Although, I’m really liking the soft top.

5K to avoid a couple months of waiting? No way. Five grand today invested wisely is worth far more down the road. I hated paying sticker, was prepared to wait longer if dealer tried any shenanigans. People are gonna find out the hard way that "selling it for a profit down the road" is a risky strategy with each passing day as rates rise and gas stays above$4.
I wouldn’t necessarily disagree with your overall conclusion, especially in light of my post a few lines up. But, investing right now, especially in this market is hardly a sure thing. Definitely not for the faint of heart in these precarious times. And, what on earth makes you think he only has a couple months to wait for a loaded BL? And I don’t believe he’s eligible for price protection. Apparently he only ordered about 6 months ago. If he’s going to try and flip it in say, 6 months for profit, or trade it in thinking he’ll make his $5k ADM back, well you’re right about that not being based in reality. But, keep it for years, or buy them both because you love Broncos…..$5k ain’t such a steep price to pay.

This is a Dumb thread. By the time you get your MY23 your price protection will be LONG GONE and probably incur a MY23 price increase that totals that $5k over. What’s dumber Is a SoCal dealer only wanting 5K markup for a top-of-the-line Badlands. sounds like a complete bait and switch is about to happen. Make sure you ask what else will be required like buying extended warranties and crap. Anyone on this forum would buy that in a heartbeat to flip it for an extra 5K lol
No bait or switch there, I have a friendship and business relationship with the dealer. I work in the auto industry so I am well aware of dealer tactics. I’m confident this deal is clean.

I reserved May 2021 and ordered October 24th.

Let me be clear here, I am not looking to flip for profit, once my order comes along I will be more than happy if the financials jive to take that one or keep the one I’m purchasing as my Bronco. If it doesn’t work out then hey I got a Bronco I’m completely content with. Paint color is not the end of the world for me. It was my second choice color.

What concerns me more is the used market is cooling off quite a bit. My trade today has lost over 3k since January, while broncos get more expensive. Will I get price protection in MY23?

I use a 2018 Toyota Tacoma TRD (30k miles) Pro as my baseline every month, I look to see what market sales prices are in my area and what they are rolling through Mannheim for. Since January they have had a decrease of $4,500. This along with consumer concerns on the economy have me thinking if I do get my order in 6 - 12 months I could be looking at another $3500-$5000 decrease.

plus I also get a Bronco to play with this summer.

paying an ADM does feel like eating a shit sandwich though.

The used market is cooling for Broncos like it is for Tacomas.
Like I said in the earlier post. Paid a $5k ADM 8 months ago on a BB. Put $5k down to negate the ADM. Made $6k in payments over 8 months. Made $2600 in upgrades and according to Carvana the BB was worth $32.5k…..about $6k upside down…over $17k to the negative after 8 only months.

So you are more comfortable "investing" in a vehicle than you are in funds or stocks? Rule 1 is to buy low, sell high and there are bargains out there. Im not talking about day trading, Im talking a long term strategy that compounds 3-5-7-10 years from now. People using these vehicles as an investment are going to get bit the minute they get scratched, wrecked or loaded up with miles. Daily drivers ARE NOT INVESTMENTS. They will make 100,000 of these this year, its not a rare vehicle and will depreciate. In addition to the 5k ADM hes paying taxes, fees, etc. That will all have to be paid twice if he flips and buys another Bronco. There is a reason dealers have closed auctions and buy wholesale to sell used vehicles. I think people are grossly overestimating what these are actually worth because they have waited so long. Just look on this forum and see how many are showing up, those are your die hards who are willing to pay a markup and that pool gets smaller daily.

Carvana’s algorithm says my 4runner is worth 28k. I have a carmax quote in hand for 37k. They have pulled back way heavy on being competitive recently because they have been making boneheaded purchases and losing money, look at the stock price. With the purchase of adesa they are also cash strapped and looking at raising more funding. Carvana honestly is a joke and will either be gone in 5 years or a market leader depends on how their acquisition turns out.

That was my point ….a car isn’t an investment. I’ve never bought a car as an investment. But, at least a car is a necessity for most. And the market hasn’t reached its bottom yet….and if we get dragged into the Russian war, tensions with China, lingering effects of COVID, Inflation…..I didn’t say you couldn’t make money…..just that it ain’t like it’s been the past 10 years or so.

It doesn’t matter to me either way since I’m not trading a vehicle in….but that is good news regardless about Carvana being off.

“I already bought a bronco and paid ADM”
B6G: How dare you, you’re the problem!
“I’m debating on buying a bronco with ADM”
B6G: you should do it, that’s a great deal!

In all seriousness, I would wait for your original order. It’s literally exactly what you wanted. The buying both and flipping one could end up not working out when the market cools. The reason you have been willing to wait, is because of how excited you’ll be to see YOUR bronco. Just my opinion, but either way that’s probably a good problem to have.

did I mention tow?
Not crazy. That's a perfect loaded rig. Most dealers are charging 10k upcharge. Get it, keep your reservation and then sell one of them is what I would do.

If you don’t mind CG, go for it. If you don’t like CG, go for it then sell it when your CO comes in. 5k over isn’t too bad.

NO-you aren't crazy! I’ made a reservation 11/2021 it’s due to ship any day…two weeks after I placed my order I took over a cancelled order for exactly what I wanted hard top, etc. and I paid 10k ADM, picked it up in late January, and it has been some of the most fun 10k to 'throw away'. I’ve enjoyed the hell out of my Wildtrak for 4 months, don’t regret it for a minute. Now my second one soft top is here, and I’m either going to sell it our Turo it.
Do it - life’s short. It makes me smile every time I drive her!!

If you hold out you might save even more if gas prices come back down. :)
