They are mounted to frame just like modular.
Thanks, that's good to hear. But you have to remove the bumper to take the shackle mounting plate off, correct? It would be too easy to just pop the plastic cover off, remove the 3 bolts holding the plate and swap them with the tow hooks.:unsure::unsure:

I think both have a bolt in the back as well as the three in front. There is a post out there that shows someone using the bigger mounting plate and they had to trim some of the capable bumper cover to make it fit so it's not a one for one swap that I'm aware of.

Since the d-rings on the capable bumper are not removable what is the process for doing a recovery from the front? Use a soft shackle through the factory d-ring that the recovery rope threads through?

Just been looking through this thread as I'm getting ready to put in some DD Elite Fogs. Taking of the capable bumper seems pretty straight forward thanks to all of you doing it first.

I'm now curious if anyone has taken off or at least seen what a Capable Bumper looks like without the plastic on either end of the back side of the bumper? I can tell it bridges the gap between the fender flare and bumper but I get so many pebbles stuck between it and the steel.

File attached and marked up from a post in this thread to explain what part I'm wondering about

What size center punch is needed to remove the retaining pin? I'm going to try this over the weekend, got some race red prepped in a spray can but need to buy a punch.

Finished mine up last week, answer to my question above is 1/4" punch will work.

Thinking about doing this, but taking it to my powder coat guy. You had no problem using the punch getting the pin out? Do i need to punch it out from a specific side? How about putting it back on? I'm probably over thinking this, but just don't want to f it up. Sick of learning the hard way. Haha.

No issues tapping/punching it out or back in and once you take the cover off there's plenty of room to use either side.

Looks great! any tips on getting that pin out. I have a 1/4" center punch, plastic cover is off and no matter which side or how many times or how hard I hit that thing it doesn't budge!

No offense but your hitting the pin correct? That's what is holding the shackle to the base. Look below and you'll see it's slightly tapered at the ends and there wasn't anything obstructing access to it once the covers are off.

My recommendation is to make sure the punch is centered on the pin and give it a good whack, that should be enough to pop it out and then you just tap it out the rest of the way and the shackle will drop.

Yep, definitely hitting the pin. Maybe the colder weather is making it tougher. I might try heating it a little bit. Thanks for the tips

I’m curious how close these are to fitting and if someone will ever offer them for the capable bumper.

In questions.

Q: What are the dimensions of the holes left to right and up and down
A: Overall is 7 x4 inches. Holes are 5.5x2.5 center to center
For shiz and giggles I measured the hole pattern on mine when I swapped out the factory installed "D" rings with the Ford Performance Tow Hooks to adapt to various tow bars (hopefully) they came in @ ~2 1/4" x 6 1/8". So no don't think they will even be close.
