Can I do side stripes myself?

I did it myself, it was pretty easy. Could a pro have done it better? Yes. Would I rather have paid someone else to do it and make it perfect? No. They aren't permanent, the worst that could happen is that you screw it up and have to throw out the vinyl stripes. Based on the cost of my stripes, I would've had to screw it up at least 6 times to make paying the $650 worth it.

That price is asinine... That is a we don't want this job price. I would charge $100 for the install.... Yes I do this for a living.

Yeah, vinyl graphics can be difficult to install, especially if they aren't straight lines. Painter's tape works well, though there are specific tapes intended for it.

I've had some horror stories from working with some 'professionals' though. My FIL decided to have his F450 vinyl'd to match his camper some years back, and the guy came out, measured his truck, designed it, etc. My FIL had the guy come put them on but didn't go out to check the work before the guy left. We stopped by and they came out to show us...and the passenger side (was supposed to mirror the driver's) was about 2" LOWER than the driver's side. Like it was OBVIOUS, and FIL was PI$$ed about it. The guy ended up redoing it on his own dime.

Do it yourself. Go to underground graphics, pick out stripe. Watch the videos, apply it.

That's what I did with no experience and it was awesome. I wouldn't pay anyone to put on a $100 stripe

F that. I’ve put vinyl graphics on roughly a dozen of my work trucks. 5 or 6 decals per side and 4 on tailgate. Big decals (5 feet long and a foot tall) can be a challenge due to air bubbles. A pinstripe should be a piece of cake if you use painters tape to mark your line ahead of time and PREP the paint first. Rubbing alcohol after a wash is probably the recommendation. Go slow, do it in a garage and get yourself a rolling office chair to work from.

"YOU CAN DO IT". I did my own vinyl hood stripes & rocker panels, which was a lot more than just a stripe. I just bought vinyl and cut it myself using knifeless cutting tape. Lots of youtube videos. First time for me and it wasn't too bad. I had to redo one of the hood stripes due to stretching the vinyl and causing a few ridges. Do not do it if the temp is hot (my mistake was trying to do it when it was 85 degrees)... it makes the vinyl soft and it can stretch easily. You can do it a couple of times if needed. The cost of a couple sets of stripes beats the quote you got by a long shot. Like stated, painters tape to keep things straight and after the first one the second one will go on easily.

I put stripes on my son’s Mustang , hood,roof,trunk. It was not difficult. As mentioned i a previous reply you could mess up twice and still come out ahead of $650. Life is about experiencing things. You will be amazed how well you will do.

In September 2021, there was no aftermarket support for graphics/vinyl so I made my own design, watched a video or 2 and went to town. I had ZERO experience with vinyl decals and wanted an iconic design - I bought a roll of 3M 1080 film which can be wet applied and the installation was very forgiving and ultimately came out great.

It's paint on my red bronco profile picture, vinyl on my blue bronco

It's the underground graphics "spear", was one of the first stripes to come out. I'll try to find the video they put out on how to apply

OK, you guys have stoked my bravery.

I know this is subjective, but I value any opinions.

I have an Oxford white 2 door with black hard top and black grill and black wheels.

Should I do a black spear stripe -

or

A red spear stripe, red mirror covers, red front grill letters and maybe white wheels?

Where are you located in MD? Which graphics are you considering? I was able to DIY after watching a couple videos... It's all about prep.

Go for the black spear stripe. Understated is the way - it will be timeless. Like the others have said, go for it! The worst that happens is you peel the vinyl off and try again.
