My problem with these super racks is they're not needed unless you're really, really pushing it (with big heavy tires), something that might deform the housing, and even then you might bend the steering screw instead.

If you really want a rack upgrade, just go with the Ford version and be prepared to get it programmed by someone who knows how to do it (as @BigMeatsBronco said, he's the one that figured out the rack hack, but there's probably at least a dozen others around who've done more than one).

However, I'd say keep the same rack and get the inner tie rods to replace, plus the tie rod kit. If you do break a tie rod, then consider upgrading. Whatever you do, if you do replace it, keep the old one in case you need it. There is no "bulletproof rack".

Note, I have the full 74W steering rack. Be less like me.

My turn off was when he basically said all B6G members were "hillbillies". I can remember him bragging up his upcoming "solution" and my first thought was the $50 "fix" because I had seen it before in the 2500 Silverado 4X4s that broke tie rods. Then to make what is basically that but out of billet for 400 bucks I knew there would be no BB in my future.

Personally, I would go 74Weld or Vasher Design.
Haven't you seen Ozark? Apparently "hillbillies" ain't "rednecks".

This is what I'm doing - I'm running the standard rack, with 38s. I haven't pushed them yet, so I may change my opinion. But for now the plan is to see what they do, and I carry a spare inner tie rod. If I start breaking things, I'll upgrade it.

Aren't they pizza cutters? What's the weight on those? (Also, did they fit without trimming??) I've got 73lbs 35's and the FP tie rods/74W rack. I don't think I'd get close to bending a tie rod, much less cracking the housing. There's the bushing, which 74W has had issues with, but at this point I just gotta ride with it.

OP does have some lift, maybe on the edge, but I think that's more CV than rack endangering. I think the tie rod w/kit is the best option.

Yes, pizza cutter 38x11.5

Weight is about 77 lbs, I weighed them at 107 mounted on my KMC 0-offset wheels. My previous tire was a 35x12.5 Mickey Baja Legend EXP at 65 lbs (95 mounted)

I did a good bit of prep work: about 3” of lift (non SAS) on the suspension, 3/4” body lift, and JKS kit. No trimming needed beyond that so far, but it gets close on the front inner fender well at full lock steering and full compression

Oh for sure, it’s the accepted norm. it’s also the accepted norm to receive it.

edit: personally I take pride in being called a hill billy lol. I may live in CA now but I grew up in a 3rd world country in the mountains driving an atv and a OG Land Cruiser through little mountain roads. Also spent a year living off the grid in North Carolina with no electric power running around barefoot. (No feet pics, sorry. Now that I’m in Cali, everyone just assumes I’m a Californian…:(
I was wondering where the "popo" came from. You were so "po" you had to say it twice 🤣

@popo_patty
The phrase "popo patty" is likely referring to police officers, specifically in a casual or slang context. It's a play on words, where "popo" can be a slang term for police, and "patty" is a common mispronunciation or shortening of "patrol".

Wrong too mostly. Honestly it’s just a nickname I’ve had for years that I brought over.
Are we done with my forum handle and back to the topic yet! Lol

It's B6G man. Every thread has to go "off topic" at some point, just the way it rolls around here.

To answer the OP’s question. Staying out of BB politics.

Been running a full BB rack (without braces) for 30,000 miles now on 37’s and a lift. Been everywhere, done everything. Not a single hiccup. It’s a true plug n play. The band aids work.
I have a video of the installation of the BB rack and the stage 2 74Weld stuff if you’re curious.
Much appreciated, thanks for this. I ended up calling 74weld and talked to them about their hardware. I like how their housing is entirely overbuilt, but I don't know if I like it $2500 more...

what is the backspacing and width on your wheels? That’s the setup I want and the wheels are 5” bs with 8.5 width

That's a good question and I can't rightly answer it, as the KMC wheels I got were installed by the dealer and I kinda walked into it after the original intended owner backed out of it (or at least that's the story I got).

I think they are +0 or +12 offset, but couldn't tell you the width. They originally came with Mickey Baja Legend 35x12.5R17. If anyone knows how to get it off the stuff stamped on the wheel I'd be happy to dig it up. I found the model, but nothing I could figure out telling me sizing.

I suppose I could get out there with a ruler and try to figure it out but it wouldn't be exact.
