Clutch type diffs have a not-undeserved bad rap, but a lot of modern ones aren't that bad. Ford switched to using carbon clutch plates about a decade ago, and they are considerably more durable than the older versions. My own anecdotal evidence is that the 85K mile diff in my F-150 is also still working pretty well. Doesn't mean I won't eventually change it, but I haven't felt it was necessary yet.
Thank you @Rocketeer Rick
One nice thing about clutch types is that they age gracefully, just gradually becoming less effective until you eventually have a standard open diff. Not the end of the world.

It’s all in the application. If you are street/gravel they will be fine.

It actually works quite well too. I didn't get many snow days but I left it in 2wd for most and it got around fine. 4A is really fun in snow though if you want to drive spiritedly.

Yep. Bronco in 4A and the stock Goodyear Sas tires are the best combo I've ever driven in the snow. I usually run MTs, but these Goodyears are actually really good in the snow. The rock throwing is real though.

You obviously haven’t read or searched this site for one second because there’s no lsd for the bronco at all. Yet you still keep posting. It’s like a bad episode of star trek “the trouble with LSD “
"The Trouble With LSD" sounds less like an episode of Star Trek, and more like a film strip I watched in health class.

Wow, no joke... not much out there as far as I can find for a LSD on the M220.
Ever heard of Nitro Gear and Axle?
They have a helical gear style LSD for the Jeep M220.
What is our axle spline count?

https://www.nitro-gear.com/Nitro-Helix-LSD-M220-p/tors-m220.htm

On the Jeep forums, they have been in contact with one Rick B. at Torsen who says they might have something later this year.

I'll vouch for the winter tires.
I gave the 3peak AT's a shot this winter, just to see .... they're great in deeper snow and slush, but my Outback on Blizzaks is far more confidence insipring if there is any signs of slickness and they have never given me any reason to doubt their effectiveness in deeper snow.

I have run Blizzaks on the Outback and X-ices on the Legacy and have no complaints about either ... but there are differences in ride/handling.

Unfortunately, it seems that the aftermarket has been slow to develop differential options for the Dana Advantek axles. I think its been hindered by the fact that both Ford and Jeep are referring to them as "Dana 44", which they are most certainly not.

I can't speak for anyone else out there, but I have managed to finally get my hands on both the open and locker units for the M220; supply shortages have made them hard to get a hold of. I have been working on developing Torsen® models for them. It'll probably be late in the year before they're available though. Stay tuned.

You know what maybe that’s what I saw. Confusing health class with Star Trek episodes.
The best LSD ever is Pineapple Express

Well, I've said as much in other posts and its a small world either way. I'm on here as someone that still has a reservation on a Bronco (though I guess I'm waiting '23s now), not in an official capacity. But if I can help answer questions I will.

Broncos and Rangers that have the open version do have a welded on ring gear, so you will also need a new ring & pinion set for the install. You just buy the 3.73:1 set that is used with the Ranger locking axle. Obviously, if you have 4.46 gears, you buy the locker 4.46 gear set instead. As far as I can tell, the 4.27 and 4.7:1 ratios are only paired with lockers anyway, so they have bolted gears already. This adds another level of expense and complication to the swap, but it doesn't prevent the install.

I do second the notion that, although an LSD is helpful in winter, your money is better spent on dedicated snow tires first. Put them together and its great, but snow tires will improve everything the vehicle does on snow, whereas the LSD only improves acceleration.
My 4.27 is most definitely not a locker up front. The rear yes.

Off topic but I have been very impressed with Sand Mode in deep snow on my Maverick FX4.

This guys running three peak AT’s and not proper winter tires but you get the idea. Sand mode has powered me through some deep snow.
