Likely because people were opting for the lower-optioned vehicles to get the bigger motor, then adding the few features they wanted from the higher trim packages. That's my guess, anyway - Force people to buy a bunch of stuff they don't want to get a couple things they do want and pad your pockets, or give them those few things ala cart on lower models and not make as much money? A business that is operating to turn a profit for shareholders is ALWAYS going to try to make as much money as possible.

I'm having the same issues with SD's...I don't want to step above an XLT, but there are a few options I DO want that are paywalled behind the Lariat trim...that comes with a bunch of things I don't want. Interestingly, those SAME options are available on the XLT trimmed Expedition my wife drives...So the lack of continuity just doesn't make sense to me.

Edit: Just scrolled through the 2025 guide for Bronco, and I hope someone gets slapped - cannot get a 2-door 2.7 unless you go to the 'Stroppe' edition. Looking at it, it is basically what I have in our BD SAS...How does that even make sense?
Thanks for the response. Kinda what I thought they were doing as well, which is sad because trim locking options pushed me away from a gladiator to the bronco in the first place and it seems they just copied what Jeep does. I’ll hold onto the 2 door big bend V6 and not get another Bronco, I don’t want all the safety crap they’re forcing on us or the vinyl seats. It’s sad that Ford is screwing up a very popular vehicle by pricing out a large amount of customers

Actually we've got the vinyl on our BD, and it's not bad at all. It doesn't feel like what everyone remembers as vinyl seats, they're actually quite comfortable. With only 1500 miles on it I can't comment on durability but they wouldn't be making it basically standard if it didn't hold up.

I still don't get putting the bigger engine only in the top trims - I remember the days when you could get a base vehicle with the biggest engine as an option because you were taking it somewhere for a competition. Seems those days are behind most OEMs.

As a budget buyer, those option pricing games burn me up. But yeah, Ford likely pays some guys to sit in a room running the numbers, figuring out ways to ding customers with option restrictions. I'm assuming it works for them, but the thing is, those tactics push me away from buying.

That's 100% where I'm at with it, and I know it's venting but it's got me really annoyed when it comes to my next truck. I'm looking at getting out of my Ram and into an SD, but I don't want to step up to a Lariat to get options my Bighorn has...or that the BD SAS has...or that my wife's XLT Expedition has. I've grown so accustomed to the auto climate control that I think it might be a deal breaker on an XLT for me...but there's options on a Lariat I just don't want, along with an extra $4k in price. It's making me consider just sticking with what I've got.

This also helps with making the current Broncos on the lot more appealing now that the options have changed drastically.

Ford is either eliminating, limiting, or locking options behind more expensive models.
Since Day 1.

I really wanted a rear locker, but couldn't justify spending 5 grand for a locker. (cost for a locker plus the cost to change from Base to Big Bend)

Test drove one with Vinyl. It was a coolish (95 degree) October day. Very hot and uncomfortable. Can't imagine how awful they would be when it's 116 in the shade.

I hear ya. I took the BB though to get the locker and the few other bits the BB got. Paid the 5k for at best 3K worth of stuff, but I'm happy.

I think the only thing the BB came with over the base was Leather wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob. Plus a 50-state legal tint on the cap.

First thing I did, before I even picked mine up, was have it tinted 20%. (35 on the front windows)

Right. I also like the wheels , grille , sandstone interior and A51 color. Not much for 5k though. 21 Base was a loss leader to attract attention and a bargain for those that went that way.

The Base and the BB were a great deal in 21', $30k start for a base and I think the BB was $34k if I remember correctly. If our Base would have been for me it would have been a BB at a minimum but since it's my kids he got an Auto and Aux switches for $32k. Can't find a 4wd anything with the Bronco features for under $40k now!

Ford's not the only one. I was considering the 2024 Tacoma, but to get pre-installed auxiliary switches on the TRD Off-Road you need to spend $4,625 on the premium package. Or you can spend far, far more money to upgrade to a higher trim with no manual transmission. :explode:

37k-ish for my 2 door base 2.7 Sasquatch build is now looking more & more too good to be true. Glad I was able to get it while I could. It's insane what these things cost now. Why pay for the tech & lux junk if you really only want big motor, big tires, & lockers? We saw during the reservation hell period, people would pay stupid money for any bronco with everything in it anyways. Just let us budget conscious folk have our fun too. I mostly see Wildtraks on the road, so I figured they weren't having problems selling the top trims.

Anyways, glad I was able to get mine. Just extremely disappointed others won't.

@FordVideoGuy So am I hearing correctly that the Black Diamond package will have the 4Auto setting standard? Or is that going to be just on the Sasquatch package like now? Thanks
