Hey guys, first post here but ive been lurking for a little while. Currently leasing a Jeep Grand Cherokee L and the lease is up the first week of September. So, I'm looking to order a Big Bend since I can't seem to find one locally in the spec that I want. My questions are...

My dealer has told me to expect about a 3-month delivery time...how accurate is this? From what I've been reading recently, I'm getting stressed out that I'm late. Am I already behind the 8-ball on placing an order to realistically get it delivered by the end of August?
Also, things like side steps and the sound deadening headliner, how good are the OEM options vs aftermarket? Is it worth adding (and financing) factory options vs buying aftermarket options for basically the same price?

Also are there any options that will delay production?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome! I was a lurker for awhile myself.

My experience with ordering.

I placed an order for a 25 Badlands Sasquatch, 4 door, 2.7, black appearance package on April 1. Ford sent me a VIN and production date on April 3. That date was the week of May 26 which was moved up to the week of May 19. The dealer that I placed the order did have allocations. I am expecting delivery around mid - late June.

I did find out that the week that I placed my order Ford was asking dealers for Badlands, 4 door with the 2.7 and painted roofs, so that may have helped me in getting a production date when I did.

I would think that if you place an order with a dealer that does have allocations, as long as it’s not a manual transmission , now that you would get a production date in July, maybe early August. They are scheduling June production dates now. If you want an August - September delivery, you will need to order soon.

I was one of the original orders early in 2021. It was built in July but held up until October due to a full replacement of all MIC roof systems. I have the OEM sound deadening. Sure you can find a better sound material, but it won't be cheaper or easier. With the multi-piece roof, it's noisier than any normal steel roof, anyway. And a softtop is much noisier than the MIC roof. I have a Besttop Skyrider currently, with the rear cap in place.

My personal opinion is to err on the side of trusting the OEM accessories, and upgrade later over time as needed. One example: the SAS package is a huge value over non-SAS if you plan on eventual 35" tires, worth the money.

One suggestion: don't let lease dates guide your choices. Most leases can be extended for a few months, at least mine was when I has to wait in 2021. Order what you want, and enjoy when it arrives. Im at 68,000 miles.

OEM side steps and rock rails go for $50-100 on Marketplace.

With your question with the headliner I went aftermarket with Hothead Headliner. From what I recall the price is about the same as the Ford factory headliner. Nice thing about them is they have multiple colors to choose from and the install was very easy.

Manual Transmission is the only big holdup I know of - they only seem to do limited production runs

I'll 2nd the option on the sliders.
The OEMs are ok. They're not the best, but they're better than nothing.
But there's zero reason to give Ford $700 for them.

I paid $110 on marketplace for a set of Badlands take offs.
I'm not hardcore rock crawling, but they've taken a few hits & they hide that hideous pinch weld.

Also, you should have no trouble extending your lease for a month or two if needed.
If the dealer happens to have both brands, they might even make it easy knowing they're getting your next purchase.

I know it's not for everybody but I would get the Free Wheeling option, really cool retro package....especially on Ruby Red.

Welcome! Keep in mind a Bronco will ride like a wind-beaten tractor compared to your Grand Cherokee L. If you've driven a Wrangler before you'll know what you're getting into :)

The side steps and headliner aren't that costly so I'd just roll them into your build. If you were looking for dual tops I'd say hold off and research the right one for you.

i actually picked a fairly windy day and took one for a test drive on the highway with a MIC top with the factory headliner. Wind noise was definitely tolerable.

I have a 2024 grand cherokee L limited (wife's ride) and you aint kidding. Jeep rides real nice but I wouldn't say the bronco is a scrub in comparison. I have no issues with the ride, I think it's pretty dang good for what it is. I test drove the rubicon gladiator the day before the bronco and that was a dog in comparison. To the OP - I now slam on the brakes accidentally in the Jeep as the bite point is way higher. Just don't be alarmed the first time in the bronco, the brakes do eventually work
