So I posted previously about looking into getting the hubby an Outerbanks. We narrowed it down to that but am wondering if there is any major differences between the '23 and '24. The '23 we are looking at is a v6 with a dual top, lux package (non sas) and towing capability. When comparing it to '24s it seems right on par with the same specs but is cheaper.

Any thoughts?

I own a 2021 OBX outfitted as the 2023 you showed. Buy it now. As others have stated, the rear locker and 4.27 axle add lots of capability ofc roading, particularly in sand where I offroad. However, as important is that the "Advanced 4×4" in NOT available in 2024 (snip of your sticker). That is a feature that includes an upgraded transfer case with auto all wheel drive that you can leave on all the time, for rain and ice, whereas the regular 4H setting will bind on pavement. In 2024, the Advanced system is only available in Sasquatch. I paid extra for it in 2021.

Others have said the v6 is not available in '24, making the 23 better as well. The one you show also has a dual top, a nice feature, meaning you can switch to a soft top with a half days work.

I'm nearing 60,000 miles in my 2021. I love the locker and the 4a. I upgraded to Badlands Take-offs, 33" Nitto tires on 8x17 wheels, for a slightly larger tire. Your 4.27 axle is geared down from the stock 3.73, giving you capacity to move to moderately larger tires later on. Your 2023 is a Lux, it seems, adding more accident prevention and driving features, Ford Nav is included, there's a wireless charger. I paid $51,500 for my High pkg.

That's a nice 2023. Grab it now. Better than the 2024 would be. In my opinion.

The Advanced 4x4 (4A) is not available as a standalone option on the 2024 OBX anymore. That option was a must have for me and why I stuck with my 2023 OBX. I can't see the 2024 window sticker to confirm the 2024 doesn't have that.
You're correct. In 2024, the Only way to get the Advanced Transfer Case, that I paid extra for in 2021, is to upgrade to the Sasquatch pkg.

The 2024 doesn’t have it
Without the 4A (advanced 4x4) in the 2024, I would get the 2023 every time. Without the Sasquatch package on the 2024, it will not be equipped with the advanced 4x4 transfer case. In my opinion, it's a big deal.

What beach is this?
That's Amelia Island State Park, (North-Northeast of Jacksonville, FL) where there a couple of miles of beach driving. It's accessible to non-residents, the rest of Fernandina Beach, where driving is allowed, is locals only. South of that is Huguenot

I also would go with the '23 with V6 and Advanced 4WD. It is odd the leather seats look like no charge but they added almost 3K to the cost of my canceled '23 OBX order. They were not added into the cost of my '24 OBX order but they still screwed me by dropping Advanced 4WD. Now no V6 so clearly do not order a new '24 or '25 OBX .

That being said, the V6 and the rear locker, are like insurance on value. Since they stopped the V6's for the OBX during the second half of 2024 production (and not looking like they're coming back next year either), they're now heading to the rare category for the OBX. The 4.27 rear locker is important as well, as it will allow you to upgrade the wheels/tires more easily and not stress the drive system, as what was told to me on here when deciding myself. Plus, opens the door for it being able to really tackle the next level off road. May not be important to you now, but someday if you decide to sell it, the V6 and the 4.27 rear locking differential, will certainly speak to buyers.
This right here.

As I spent a few days looking into the Bronco a couple of weeks ago, it became obvious what you said. I didn't know they stopped putting the V6 in mid-2024. I just knew it was preferable, as was the 4.27 locker. I also wanted Advanced 4x4. And I stumbled upon the last '23 around here, in a great color, with ALL of those features, at a good price. I didn't realize it had 4A until I saw the car; on the computer I was looking at window stickers, and they don't put that feature in the expected location so I missed it.

Once I saw it had 4A, I signed for it. It was actually my wife's decision, because it's her car, but I wanted the V6 and 4.27 locker and 4A. And that mix of equipment is perfect for us--we're not offroaders, and any offroading we may get into will be light. This is my wife being tired of 25 years of minivans and wanting something COMPLETELY different. A convertible tall offroader in Hot Pepper Chili with leather seats and automatic 4x4.

I'm sure glad we got it when we could. Now the V6 isn't available in the OBX and the Advanced 4x4 isn't available on ANY Bronco at all without the Sasquatch package. I have no interest in that package, and further I don't understand why a Sasquatch buyer would even want Advanced 4x4.

Anyway, now I realize I bought a unicorn. I hate buying unicorns. Because now my expectations are set--but Ford isn't making my car anymore. They may never make one this way again. So it was with my two Mk7 GTI; while VW still sells the GTI, it's not in a form I want and so VW has nothing for me. So it was with the PHEV van I traded in; I got a '21, fully loaded, made right before the world shut down and supply chains dissolved. They still make that van, but not with the equipment level from '21 and of course at a higher price.

These automakers, they make a great car with a great mix of equipment and then can't keep their hands off it and they "upgrade" it right into the ground.

100% this.

I do NOT want the Sasquatch package, but every 2024 requires that in order to get 4A. And that's insane.

I 100% agree the Mk7 is the unicorn! In 2021, never going back to 5 days in the office commute, I had two cars and decided to sell one of them. A 2015 Mk7 Autobahn (ARP stg1) that I had since new. Actually bought it while taking my Mk6 in for the DSG transmission fluid change and saw it sitting there. Skipped the fluid change, brought the Mk7 home instead. The Mk6 came to me (2013) after moving to DC from Chicago with my Mk5 and realized every rim was bent to hell and back. Decided to skip the repair and pulled a new Mk6 off the truck instead. They were all soooooo good that I didn't even test drive the 6 or the 7, just bought them. Anyway, 2021. Had the Mk7 at 73k miles, and a 2014 Mercedes Benz E350 sport with 50k miles. Sold the Mk7 to Caravan for $21k.....and regret it to this very day. My Mercedes became a 2014 Tiquan earlier this year for my son's first car with only 40k miles on it, and I got the Bronco after I went to look at the Mk8 and nearly wanted to punch the salesman in the back of the head for allowing VW to do what they did to it! I was soooo ticked off! Stop the insanity of the screens, and where in the hell did the shifter go? My first car was an 87' GTI 16v back in 88'.

You keep those GTI's man!! They're the lightning in the bottle versions! You know, but most don't - in their DNA, they are FAR more "Porsche" than VW! The Mk6 was more Audi, and the Mk7 went to Porsche. You have my dream garage now with the Bronco too.
