Had my 2022 Bronco Badlands Sas 2.3 L in for routine service. They told me I needed a new battery because my actual cold cranking amps were down to 565 from factory 800. My rig is two years, five months old w/ 52k miles. Haven’t been having any problems. Told them I’d replace it next oil change. Tried searching the topic here and I’m not finding much. Physically changing a battery isn’t difficult. Is there anything more such as telling the computer it’s a new battery, etc? Any help would be;d be appreciated.

Thanks. Contented

After you swap the battery you should reset the BMS—battery management system.

I usually use FDRS to do it. But there is a manual way to do it as well... if I recall you have to flash the high beams 5 times followed by press the brake pedal 5 times (or something like that). But I'm sure Google can assist with that.

EDIT— Looked it up.

1. Power on vehicle (engine not running)
2. Flash high beams 5 times
3. Press brakes 3 times
4. Wait for battery light to flash after 5-10 seconds
5. Power cycle vehicle

At 52k miles, unfortunately its well out of warranty.
Ask someone at a parts store how many miles a battery is good for, bet the answer is in months. Never heard of a battery not rated for months of service

If it's the OEM factory battery then it follows the factory warranty... 3 years / 36k miles. 5 years / 60k mile powertrain.

I think you forgot a few steps:

6. Rub tummy and tap head simultaneously
7. Walk and chew gum at the same time
8. Watch game while listening to wife's story, saying "I can't believe that happened dear..."

No doubt, but the oem battery is covered under the 3/36k warranty so that's the deal.

To be clear, power cycle vehicle means turning the truck off and then back on ?

I’m kind of embarrassed now. It’s all detailed very clearly in the owners manual. When all else fails, read the owners manual. 😊

Take a look at the odyssey performance battery as a replacement.

OEM batteries seem to have turned to total crap since Covid, so much so that I almost always replace them with an odyssey within the first 6mths I own the car. Fords actually seem decent. I’ve had 3 bad batteries within 6mths on the mopar and Toyota side. Toyota likes to use clarios batteries and mopar sometimes get a good east penn as luck of the draw, but otherwise Johnson controls make them all now except odyssey (enersys) and east penn (Deka), overseas and they are shit.

They odysseys are good. Larger, more pure lead plates, and more dense design, will last a long time and provide additional power.

Unfortunately I have heard strongly negative reviews of both Odyssey and Optima for recent customer service. I was hoping to get a 'nice' battery for my next replacement but I'm having a hard time seeing anyone as a serious improvement over the Walmart AGM.

Optima was purchased by Johnson controls in 2000, and over the last 15 years phased into made in Mexico. The current ones are total crap, and the old school reliable optima we knew from the 90s-2000s is DOA.

I have had over 20 odyssey batteries (variety of vehicles) in the last couple of years and never had a problem. I have seen some of those negative reviews to your point, but happy people don’t take the time to say it’s great. Like with anything else.

Napa legend premium batteries are made by east penn, they are good like the deka’s also. I wouldn’t buy anything else but that’s me. Walmart is usually JCI, Johnson controls.
