Now that I am pushing my 5 year old Bronco on 37" tires, I think its finally time to look at the various tune options to offset some of that oomph I have lost. However, I would like to get a bit more horsepower/torque than what ProCal has to offer. I know ProCal is a bit more conservative with extra protection, but I have had JB4 tunes in a couple of other cars and had really good experience with them, thus am comfortable taking that risk. Besides, I don't have to worry about a warranty anymore at this point.

A couple of older threads here were super useful, especially showing how Pedal Monster sounds superior to Pedal Commander. Even though they don't offer additional horsepower, I am open to just adding a throttle controller if it gives me decent acceleration gains (note I live in a decent size city and literally have to pull out onto a freeway from deadstop on my daily commute with cars going 70 mph.. so you get the idea). One odd concern I have about the Pedal Monster is that it supposedly pulls your car specs from the OBD connection for important settings. That sounds great and all, but what if one has a 2.7L Badlands for example that doesn't come stock with Sport Mode as an option but has that feature turned on thru Forscan ? Could that throw Pedal Monster settings off?

I think my bigger question is how do these throttle controllers truly compare to say real tunes that give you more horsepower like Pulsar XT or JB4? At one time I was really set on one of those but do like what I have read about Pedal Monster as of late. But I have also read if you do go with a true tune, the throttle controllers are redundant. So.. if anyone here has already done some kind of comparison, I am all ears!

And... I guess there is always a custom tune thru ZFG Racing, 5starTunning, etc.? However, those appear to be a bit more complicated.

If you have an automatic transmission, I strongly suggest you try and find another Bronco with the FPP tune loaded and drive it. The transmission adjustments alone are worth the entire thing to me, except for the fact that this is how a Bronco should shift from the factory.

In fact, I'm convinced they detune the transmission a little to give a bump for emissions and maybe a little wear and tear.

Pedal monster and pedal commander don't do anything for power, so they're quite a bit different than anything like the Pulsar XT or JB4.

Custom tune is really the only way to go if you want some more power. Everything else will be pretty much similar to the procal

Pedal Commander and Pedal Monster aren't tunes...they simply recalibrate pedal response.

Pedal tuners just pre-load the gas pedal for you, no actual performance difference. And if you want one we suggest the BMS pedal tuner. ;) But it's nothing like a JB4 that actually adds power/torque/improves turbo response time.

Yeah, I actually thought about how I wrote that a few mins after I posted and wanted to go back and update my post before someone corrected me... oops. I was to late. But I have revised my post now so that is more accurate, especially when comparing true tunes to simple throttle controllers.

FWIW, I've been running the Pedal Commander going on three years w/o issue. I love it paired w/ the 7MT.

Yes, Terry I would say JB4 is a clear leader in my head based on customer experience alone. I am sure you don't remember this, and I bet folks on this forum reading this are going to be like BS/friend/plant, etc., but you actually helped me way back ~2008 to trouble shoot my JuiceBox 3 or 4 installation in my then new BMW 335i. I had installed it over a weekend and did something wrong and took the chance to call your customer support number on a Sat/Sun. I was very surprised that you actually answered the call (well someone did and said it was you). Then talked me through the issue, which of course was user error. So yeah, there is that. So helping customers way back when can still pay off years later. Maybe this helps win over new customers, especially with the fact you are active on this forum as well!

A vote for @ZFGracing .

I've been running Adams tuning for over 2 years and I drive hard. I've had zero issues. With the RTD device it's actually very simple now. A little more complicated process is small price to pay for a higher quality tune overall.
