Impossible to track like this you would have to run the test yourself, demographics itself will play a huge role not to mention the specific driver, for me personally not worth the cost 93 in my area is more than diesel fuel which is ridiculous because in PA we have an insane amount of state road tax on diesel so my bronco gets 89
Come to California if you think PA gas tax is insane. I’m pretty sure CA is #1, and we’re never #1 at anything good.

lol, sorry but you couldn’t pay me enough to even visit California. Seriously though yes I know cali is the highest but PA is pretty bad definitely in the top 5 if not second behind cali just in shear road tax I’m talkin. I may be off a few cents either way but on top of the federal fuel tax PA adds another $.54 a gallon on gas and $.76 a gallon on diesel nothin like getting taxed twice lol

I run 87 oct unless I am towing and then I run 93 oct ... just my personal preference. I upgraded my intercooler with a stock location Wagner Tuning intercooler and noticed a nice seat of the pants improvement even on 87. Largely made the intercooler upgrade for towing my RV in Texas summer heat.

PS ... I have the 2.7 V6

I've never run anything but 87 in any of my ecoboosts.. even when I had the ranger and frequently towed AT or even slightly OVER max capacity.

I usually average 21mpg with the bronco and that's with 3.73s, 2" lift, 3" larger tires that poke out past the flares, a roof rack, and aftermarket skid plates that aren't as aerodynamic.

After owning a turbo vehicle that was made more than a decade before direct injection... I told myself I'd never own one as a daily again.. because 91 is AT LEAST a dollar more a gallon up here than 87. Having no choice but needing to pay for jungle juice when gas prices are as high as they are now.... Not something I'm interested in.

Thank God for engineering nerds and the gospel that is D.I.. made my commute much more enjoyable.

Consider trans cooler upgrade as well very important when hauling, or annual ATF flushed with symthetic.

I always use 93 low ethanol and get better milage and crsiper response ....the math shows its pretty much cost nuetral and anyone whomcan afford a Bronco will not get hurt wih extra $10+ tank for premium, which also happens to be a cleaner fuel with superior additive packages as well.

With FP tune now Im at lest getting max benefit.

Yeah I can’t help either, only ever run 91 and now 94, the 2.7 just sings running 94 octane - and same deal, I bought it for fun, not mpg - if you’re gonna have a mid life crisis, then lean in to it bud!

I ran 87 for the first year in my 2dr 2.7 and then tried 93 for several months. There was no real difference in mpg. When I installed the FPP tune along with intercooler, charge pipes, intake, 37's and using 93 I'm seeing an increase around 6-7%. With the stock tune, I don't think 93 makes a difference. Once you get into some engine mods you will see an added benefit.

Funny how there is the misconception that higher octane has any thing to do with actual fuel economy -- the bottom line is ----Octane Rating is a fuel's resistance to knocking. Higher octane ratings do not mean more energy. In fact all gasoline has the same amount of energy and there is no benefit between 87 and 91 and up. Ethanol mixes have much less energy (10-15%) then ethanol free fuels and do produce a noticeable decrease in economy. Higher octane will allow for higher rpm's with out detonation which will allow for more power production but without a tune is likely in the 20 HP range. Those with a calibrated butt may actually believe they notice that increased power production but what you are generally feeling is a thinner wallet in your back pocket as you try and justify the benefits of running fuel that approaches about a buck a gallon more.

.... More octane allows a motor to run more aggressive timing, especially in a boosted application.

Rowdier timing can&will (to a point) increase low end torque.

More torque (again, to a point) increases efficiency on multiple fronts.. BSFC will be decrease.. AND the amount of throttle input required to get to & hold X amount of MPH will also decrease.. getting two birds stoned at once..

It's not necessarily a misconception. It CAN be.. but not always.

no arguments here-- I was just pointing out the actual gains may not be as noticeable in the seat of the pants as often claimed.

Personal preference is 91 ethanol-free but it is currently about a dollar more than the regular premium 91 octane. For that, I'll settle for alcohol and roughly $3.50/gallon (Amarillo).

Towing, this thing was a pig, but unladen, I'm getting a measured 22-23MPG on premium. It drops since we are a posted 75 on most roads up here. Under 70, I can get 25 in 6th gear...

I see a decrease on the 86 crap...wont even run it in the 2005 Grand Marquis. Ill pay the extra dime for mid-grade.
