SURVEY: Are 8 GOAT modes necessary

Use slippery when it rains or snows. Sure I could just shift to 4 wheel, but the throttle control is nice since I have a lead foot.

Eco does help a little. Again when you have a lead foot, anything that lowers the throttle will help

Do you have any details of TC enhancement? I'd like to find something that allows TC but not Adv Trac in 4L.

EDIT: I see the chart above sys TC enhanced in Sand (which would match OMs advice to use Sand to get unstuck) and says sand is available in 4H and 4L, but I bet it disables in TC 4L, I'll give it a try

That table has been around a while, but it has errors. TC is on in Sport, not off. If you go to a patch of dirt and put it in Sport mode and stomp the throttle, TC will fire which you can feel and see the indicator light flash. Also the indicator for “TC Off” is not illuminated. In Sand mode, the “TC Off” indicator is illuminated which makes sense because you do not want traction control while trying to drive in deep sand or deep snow where momentum is important and dragging a tire is bad.

The table may have other errors. E.g. when I select Mud&Ruts, the stabilizer bar auto-disconnects like it does in Rock Crawl.

This is why I wish Ford would provide official information about what really is going on, especially for things like TC, throttle and shifting that have no indicators and may not be simply on or off.

I was doing 35ish on cracked gneiss and cinders(dirt road). I punched it, not to the floor, and it Squirrelled out the rear end. I caught it in a split second but I don't think the computer is as fast as some of us think.

I'm not aware of "may customize gauges" in sport mode, going to have to play with that. If I could set my own mode for daily driving, it would be steering - tight, throttle - aggressive, transmission - normal.

I recently purchased the ProCal for my 2.7L but haven't installed it yet. How does the FP tune feel compared to Sport mode? my '25 badlands didn't come with it, and I haven't dabbled in FORscan since my Explorer ST.

After tuning, would sport mode make any appreciable difference? Figured someone here may have tried it out.

Sport mode has a different PID than Normal/Eco. Not sure about the other GOAT modes b/c I don’t use them that often.

You're not getting Sport mode in Normal (and like a Super Sport) with the procal. You're getting updated shift schedules (with the auto) and moor powah, so it'll feel a little sportier, but for me it just lugs less in lower gears. (I have the 2.3L but I don't think it differs that much.) Which is actually pretty nice. Sport mode makes other adjustments, including revving higher and I think stiffening the steering feel, so not really the same.

So you're thinking the procal will be fun, and the procal+sport will be funner. Got it.
Now to find an ASE mechanic to do the programming to retain the warranty. (The wording on this is so bad, and obviously on purpose)

With my newly added Rock crawl i can verify tight steering, I like it. (Unless it was bind from 4wd and locker, but I was on gravel)

I think you need to reread my post. I wasn't dictating or judging on how much control you need or should have. It was a genuine question since the Bronco allows you to control whatever you want WITHOUT using the GOAT modes, and given the fact that you drive a manual, which I assume based on your response, the question is even more relevant.

As for the illusion of being head of household, I hear you! We all know our roles.

GOAT modes make changes to things like steering feel and camera modes that aren't available AFAIK. Maybe that's what he means?

I’m surprised by number of comments about not using GOAT modes. But honestly, I don’t either. Is this over engineering by Ford or an inexpensive reliable feature to cover all potential users. Some are almost interchangeable by selecting 2WD or 4WD like sport/Baja. I've also seen comments that Eco does not get any better mpg around town than normal.

Sure, one can press 2H, 4A, 4H, or 4L, the rear and/or front lockers, but if you haven't experienced how much better doing Baja-style runs are with the aggressive throttle response, tightened steering response, and crisper shifts, you're missing out. Likewise, Rock Crawl provides the smooth throttle that makes it easy to give just the right input for the task, and the tighter steering helps make positioning the wheels a joy. The way the transmissions responds and controls RPMs and shift points in some modes like Sand just elevate the experience.

If there's one mode I really don't use, it's Sport. I added it because I could and wanted to see what it was like, but I find I never use it. I'm sure it's because I already have a vehicle that does "sport" 1000x than the Bronco ever could. So, acceleration, cornering, and braking are enjoyed in a vehicle that does that well. I don't fault the Bronco for that. My sports car doesn't like speed bumps, and I need to be careful coming in and out of driveways and over railroad tracks, so you could say it would be just as dumb if it had a Baja mode.

One thing that would be nice would be to be able to set the order of the GOAT modes so that I could put the ones I use most closest to Normal and the rare ones at the far end. That, and having any of the street modes remain sticky after shutting off and restarting. Oh, now I just thought of a third thing: why not be able to use the Settings in the center screen to dynamically enable/disable modes?

As far as Eco mode goes, I think it should be mapped to not use turbo boost at all unless you floor it, or maybe nearly so. Staying off boost is what will make the most fuel economy difference.
