Brake Light and Check Brake System

Man, the logic on this is mind blowing. Mine is currently in for this *for the second time*, on the updated part, no less. They replaced this at 48k, under warranty as well, but are now claiming that that repair was a good faith repair that they did. Cue today and they want north of $650 to fix this. (What actually happened is that they replaced the brake booster when I told them it was more than likely the vacuum line, and had a bit of egg on their faces when I brought it back a day later with the same issue. "Oh, huh, looks like you were right....").

Even under the premiumcare warranty, it fits the criteria and would 100% be covered:

IMO, a TSB is 100000% admission of a defective part and/or (sub)system

Not all vehicles exhibit TSB issues. Sometimes it happens, sometimes vehicles go their whole lifetime without the issue ever happening.

Yes it’s a known issue that could happen, but regardless, it’s not something that will be covered forever. That’s just not how it works for any manufacturer

As far as ESP, some brake related items are covered, but not everything is covered even if it seems like it should be. It all depends on the base part number. It’s not bumper-to-bumper

I have also had a similar situation with the check brake system light last Sept. Just yesterday I received notification that my parking brake was overheated and had limited usage. It cleared itself by the end of the day just as it did in Sept. I would love some insight please.

I'm mostly in it at this point to get this particular service manager to state clearly (and into the microphone) why a known flaw in a safety system isn't covered. Totally understandable. I completely understand the annoyance and frustration, and I do agree with you. Something like this should’ve been avoided and fixed completely a while ago.

I got that a few times in my first 6G Bronco...

It really means what it says. The Brakes are too hot to reliable hold the vehicle in place with the electric motor engagement, and as things cool down it can get worse as parts lose heat and contract, so Ford doesn't want you setting the brake and walking away from the vehicle expecting it to stay in place.

In my case I had a bad habit of pulling into my driveway at a low speed and not stopping completely before pulling the e-brake, then walking to the mailbox to check the mail, jumping back in the Bronco, driving to the house, and repeating the same 1~2mph stop with the parking brake backing into where I park. I got that message a few times after doing this on warmer days.

Once I realized the cause, I changed my habits to always coming to a full stop before engaging he parking brake, and I stopped getting the message.

Yeah, not really buying that one. No bad habits with the E brake here. No reason for it to be hot. 2021, owner since new, 55K on the clock, never did it before or since. Just one of many reported glitches in the electronics. We are driving PC's. Not surprising.

Meh, I dunno what your habits are, I gave you a real world example of it behaving the way it is supposed too, so you could go further and look at possibilities if you want too.

And the driving PC's analogy is incomplete, We're driving a network of PCs all hooked up with a serial bus system very similar to a USB network... Within a PC the internal busses are much more controlled.

I told you what my habits are. I apply the parking brake once I am.........parked. If I was applying the parking brake while I was still moving, I would know what the problem is.

Thanks to this thread I went ahead and took care of my check brake issue today. ‘22 2.3 manual - hard brake pedal at start for the last month or so - threw the error when I got on the throttle last week.

I went with the MB3Z-2420-L replacement part. It fit perfect, although mounted up in the engine bay somewhat differently, had the check valve at a different spot. Took about 10 minutes to change out, with most of that time futzing with the vacuum line clips

I’ve cleared the error in FORSCAN and it has not returned.

I’ve attached some extremely poorly taken photos (sorry) of the new part sitting next to old, new part installed, part number, and of the ABS code I was getting.

edit: I’d also like to note that, after the part swap, the brake pedal is no longer solid before starting (after sitting overnight). Seems the system is indeed holding the vacuum much better after the swap.

I had the same issue and was going on a trip so I had the dealer diagnose and replace.....$700 worth of education My problem returned, it only happened when I was at highway speeds and on boost. Not a problem in city driving where I was on and off of boost and had vacuum. Turns out that I had a leak in the grommet where the vacuum sensor goes into the booster (below the master cylinder in the front side of the vacuum booster). Power Brake Booster Vacuum Sensor Grommet - Ford (EB3Z-2L181-A) about $10. My issue was self induced, I flat tow my Bronco behind a motorhome and use a Demco Air Force One auxiliary braking system. I had to install a vacuum line from the aux braking system into the vacuum booster. The 'Tee' that Demco provides is not the correct diameter for the grommet and caused the grommet to tear. I've since designed a 3D printed part that is the correct size as a replacement for the Demco 'Tee' vacuum fitting. Expensive lesson for me but I had the dealer give me the MB3Z-2420-L that they removed, I'm sure it is still good. (I do, however, carry a spare grommet with me
