I have never replaced brakes or rotors before. How difficult is it? Is this something a diy novice can do? I want to do it so I can learn but also don’t want my brakes to fail when cruising down the highway ha.

Should be able to do it after a few videos but will need special tools, lube and maybe forscan or something for rear brake.

I suggest if it is you first ever time doing brakes, you can DIY but have a knowledgeable friend help you out.

Here is a video that might help
That's an important tip. A lot of us know how to do brakes, but some of these vehicles have a unique feature that need to be disabled (or put into service mode). Always smart to check on that first!

Thanks all. I know my Bronco has brake maintenance mode so i did read up on that. I suppose I can give it a try and worst case have the place up the street fix anything I mess up. I'll do some research and watch videos for sure.

No special tools needed so long as you don’t crack open the brake lines (and there is no normal need to do that)

Hardest part is usually just smacking the old rotor off the wheel hub. The rest of the job are standard metric bolts and fidgeting with some small metal clips; having some high temp anti seize handy makes the next time you do it easier.

Not a hard job at all, just bad consequences if you don’t follow the directions (driving with no brakes is … challenging).

You can doo eet

Thanks! Yes the videos make it look easy. I’ve taken the tires off before ; I have all the tools and torque / breaker bars. I would like black calipers for front and rear as will but looks like I’d have to take the brake line off.

If you think you can, you can. Unless you have some odd issue rotors and pads are easy. Heck even calipers are not an issue for the diy person.

just make sure you have a torque wrench to properly re-install everything. caliper torque isn't as sensitive as head bolts or anything wild, but needs to be properly tight

OP, how many miles are on your Bronco? I could see having to replace the pads, but rotors should last almost 100k miles. Also, the rears last longer than the fronts since the front does most the work.

This used to be the case, but it really isn’t anymore. I can’t speak for other brands, but Ford’s typically always wear out the rears much faster now days

I can attest to this, went through 2 sets of rear pads before the fronts were changed.
