Apple iOS 26 and carplay

The only issues I've had with IOS 26 is with iMessage and Facetime. CarPlay has been perfectly fine with the new features.

I"m in this boat too. car play works 95% of the time for me. and that 5% is just when amazon music plays but there is no sound.

Therefore, I too am hesitant to update.

Not that many use it, but the Apple Maps navigation directions have been integrated like that for a while as well. I did notice that Google is now similarly integrated. Waze needs to follow suit next.

Completely forgot the new iOS was out and I upgraded this afternoon while at work. Hopped in the Bronco, plugged it in (I only run wired for sound quality) and CarPlay fired right up almost instantly. Huge improvement and haven't discovered any bugs yet. I like the interface a bit more as well.

I will say that lately, I've had to reboot the stereo system far, far too often to get CarPlay to work. It was fine up until about a month ago at which point it wouldn't connect, especially when I was in and out of the vehicle on multiple short trips. Was getting pretty annoying. Hoping the update fixes that.

The Google Maps integration to the instrument cluster navigation is a nice upgrade. Previously, it would only work with built-in Ford navigation and/or Apple Maps. Unfortunately, it does appear to still be a bit buggy; I've noticed that the turn-by-turn directions will become "stuck" at a previous step in the journey, and I have to exit the current navigation route and then restart to get the signaling working again. I hope that the 26.1 release will address this issue.

No, I have a ‘21 black diamond mid with small screen and this has worked for as long as I remember. It’s not the same graphics (it’s instead blue theme like ford sync) but it does show ahead of each turn.

The most noticeable change for me is the Google Maps directions are now integrated with the gauge cluster. Before only the built-in Ford Nav showed up there.

iOS 18.6.2 does that in our '25.

The GA seed isn't complete. I'm running Dev Beta 26.1, but there's a lot more Developer seeds and work before it goes GA. Fingers crossed.

I may try out Carplay again. I had given up on it entirely, even wired lately.

It worked great on my ‘23 BD and my current ’24 Heritage. Wireless.
It only worked wired on my ‘20 Rover Sport but I recently bought this Ottocast adapter and now it works wirelessly in the Rover very well.
It costs $45 and you could try it if wireless in your Bronco is shaky.

A month or two ago Google Maps stopped working in Car Play for me. As soon as I start navigation the screen freezes and Car Play crashes until I do the soft reset (ie stop the car and open the door) or the Power + Forward hard reset.

I was hoping this upgrade to ios 26 would fix it but it doesn't. Apple Maps works fine. A friend's iPhone on my Bronco works. My iPhone on another Car Play (a 24 Honda Odyssey), also fine.

Has anyone else had Car Play + Google Maps problems and been able to fix them?
