I just got my 4 door 2.3L OBX. I like the engine, plenty of power. I have only 50 miles on but noticed when I stop at red lights, that the idling is not smooth at all. It seems that there is some fluctuation of the RPM, (but the RPM gauge is not moving). I thought it might be from the power pull of the AC, so I turned it off but nothing changed. Any idea what it could be? Thanks in Advance

You're at a light, so stopped, for on brake, ASS trying to kick in? your ac was on so it shouldn't. Bad gas?

I have a stick and never experienced that. Start with the easy things first, voltage?

The tach sucks, i don't trust it for little things like that, half the time i think it's just for decoration, i go by sound

Yeah, no ASS. Bad Gas or just initial break in of the first 100 mile? It is definitely not a normal engine feel. I will run the next tank with premium gas to see how it goes.

My 2.7 idles rough for sure not sure I’ve noticed it on our 2.3 yet. I think it’s partly how low they have the idle set from the factory.

Could it be the fuel pump? There are a few threads out there with folks getting caught out on the trail with a dead Bronco due to the fuel pump. They reported the engine running rough and spotty before eventually dying. Diagnosis was faulty fuel pump.

I hope not but I will have an eye on it.
BTW: While I think the 2.3 has more than enough power for the Bronco, I think the brakes are terrible. I have seen many reports comparing 2.3 vs 2.7 and the 2.3 Brakes have been reported to be the weak point of the 4 cylinder. I can definitely confirm, not boeno at all....

I have to say I am having the same problem with my OBX. I noticed it when stopped at lights. It kinda seems like a sputter or something.

Were you able to figure this out? Mine has been doing the same for a while now and the dealer claims its normal.

At only 50 miles the ECM could still be adjusting fuel trim levels. If you read the manual, it says to expect some engine oddities for the first 100 miles (and probably x-number of key cycles/highway cruising events). If you have a OBD-II reader, see if there are any pending codes.

Completely agree with oilbrnr, it is the ECM learning. All modern vehicles I know of learn adaptively.

Mine is way past the 50 miles, I'm close to 50,000 kilometers but still have this issue.

I'm assuming it's a '25 if you just got it, which should be electric boost instead of manifold vacuum, and that was supposed to resolve the weak 2.3l brake issue...

But I haven't heard a lot of talk from people running the new setup yet, I hope it's not going to be a continuing problem for the 2.3. :(

Yeah, but it's not your post; start a different one with all your particulars and I promise we will armchair diagnos the $#!t out of it!
