I think it's awesome, and there is absolutely a market for this, the Maverick proved it, but Ford couldn't keep the price down on them. If Slate can really keep the price down they will sell...

IF!
Depending on more information that comes out, heck I may trade in my maverick. The little I do drive it I already save loads on fuel, but something fully electric may make it all worth it. It would be VERY interesting to see responses to this.

First thing I thought was can I bag it! I really see this being in my future as 5 seat SUV would be perfect for my wife if there is enough head room in the back for my dogs. I forsee the version I want costing $30-40K.

There's a 10% chance the company survives to the first deliveries. Even if it does, it will cost 1.5x what it advertised in the beginning when they were trying to harvest reservations to allow them to raise more capital to get the damn thing off the ground.

Don't believe it? I have a $39k Cybertruck to sell you 😂

Any low cost option is a win. The base model would make for a great DD/local fleet. They've also apparently designed it for AWD, also. It would be crazy not to.

The big asterisk is the price. So, so, so many manufacturers have promised, or "targeted", a certain price and proceed to sell for >20% more.

I'd be really cool if they did make this and it became as ubiquitous as the Tesla 3s.

Ars Technica is saying they're targeting late 2026 for production, but they're also skeptical they'll be ready by then.

Anybody else heard of a requirement to have a backup camera? 🤔
Like @Gluestick said, NHTSA ruled back in 2014 that all vehicles had to have them bu 2018.

Drop the Chicken Tax or any other proposed tariffs and let Toyota ship or build domestically.

The Chicken Tax was 25% and they could easily build them in the U.S. or Mexico or Canada(haha) due to the USMC(formerly NAFTA). I think there are other reasons that thing isn't coming here and it's a near certainty to be safety or emissions related.

There was a few seconds when some people were foaming at the mouth over the “ Smart Cars”. Next topic .

I'm good with these offerings from Slate, will they sell like hotcakes? Probably not, they're a very niche market item but if they can really keep the price that reasonable then they'll trend for first time young buyers and might just be a thing! At least they look fun which is more than most vehicles that are out on the road now.

I am 100% positive these will hit the market. Bezos hasn't stopped pissing away money on Blue Organ Space Penis yet. I just question the final products quality? Everything made today is disposable and to such a lower quality. Does bring back fond memories of the Saturn Car Company.

Well, I did fail to mention the DOT and EPA are the real barriers but just like the Kei Trucks and cool Series 70 Land Cruisers, they'll be safe enough to import in 25 Years

Hell yeah, I would buy one of these. Buddy has one of those Roxor jeeps, I doubt it is street legal but he does not care. Bro drives it everywhere.
I think those are street legal on streets up to certain speed limits, like 35 or 40mph.

Ill believe it when I see it for 20k....Elon did this prior to the 3 series...same MO....kinda dig it and Id have to say, if they DO start at 20k they will sell like proverbial hot cakes...but this pipe dream right now is exactly that, and this is how you garner interest...its on its publicity tour right now, still a ways away...

Apparently, the supply/demand curve is such that at $39K, there were 1,000,000 customers. Now that it's actually $80-100K, there were only 50,000. 😆

It is kind’a big and heavy but what is needed…cheap practical people/stuff hauler…I love it and think it will sell like crazy if they can actually build it to the price point with some reliability…Good Luck to them!

I just don’t see the timeline for reservations to order to delivery anywhere.
Missing a factory and production line... $50 deposits do not a factory make.

Really this is what the Maverick/Bsport should have been with the 3-pot ecoBoost.

At some point our 250000 mile Tundra is going to give out, and while I don't need full size I still have use for a bed. When I saw this I thought it would be perfect if it had an ICE. I have no need for the 'benefits' of EV - it is clean burning gasoline for me.

So probably a base Frontier it will be, for hardly any more money truth be told because EV subsidies are going away and the real cost of these things are always 50% plus by the time they go on sale...
