Most UNDERUSED mods on Broncos? Go!

While I agree the winch is not used as much as other mods - I do find many other uses for my winch other than vehicle recovery. Just in the last couple months I have used my winch to..

* hoist a 40 gallon water pressure tank full of water up out of my well hole
* straighten the mailbox post after somebody backed into it
* straighten the bed rack on a Jeep Gladiator project I've been working on (vehicle was in a rollover and rack was bent)
* and, yes, one time, actually pull a neighbor's Subaru out of the ditch after she slid on ice

Back on topic: my biggest "least used" mod would be the Halo Doors ("Doughnut Doors"). I absolutely love them but, for where I live, the weather really only supports running them a couple months out of the year. The rest of the time, they are in the door bags in my shop doing nothing. Sometimes wish I lived in AZ but not sure "being to run Halo Doors year round" is enough of a reason to move.

"Technically", one could say the snorkel is a NEVER-USED, mod. But having a snorkel is like having a fire extinguisher (or a gun).....one of those mods you do HOPING you NEVER have to actually use it. And it reduces dust intake in the summer and just plain looks good....so I wouldn't count it as "underused"

Not sure if you have a hard top but, I leave my screen on year round. In winter - I stuff a folded Queen sized blanket between the screen and the hard top. Adds insulation. Reduces road noise. And is available as an emergency blanket should the need ever arise.

My most underused mod has to be the hood deflector that's still in a box in my garage. Not sure if / when I will install it. The few other mods I have installed are all getting at least some use.

Recovery gear / emergency supplies have not been used (other than to pull a stump), thankfully, but those aren't really mods as they do not change the vehicle or its usefulness in any way.

GOAT Modes (I just use the dash switches)
Hill Descent Control (not even sure how it works or why I care with a manual trans.)
Back Seat (should just toss it…)

Hill descent is actually pretty nice on a long rocky hills. It's like cruise control for going down hill. I mainly use it on rocky long hills and set it at 5 to 8 mph. The 4 cylinder just doesn't hold back very well so it come in handy...

I am glad I passed on the hood deflector and just put on the PPF instead. Haven't had a problem with any paint chips. the 3M stuff is pretty hardy...

My personal top 3 most unused:

1. Fire Extinguisher (thankfully)
2. Kinetic rope
3. Ditch lights

Never have used the kinetic rope. The ditch lights I turned on once after I installed them, haven't used them since. (Currently not even installed.)

For 20 years I carried a 16 foot nylon tow strap in my Samurai and now my Bronco, and never used it .... until last summer when I had to use it to clear a road for my friends.
Really happy I kept that strap. :- )

Stuff I would still buy again, even though I've never used:

1. Tow strap, kinetic rope, shovel, tire patch kit.
3. Aux switches. Technically, these came with the Badlands, but even if they hadn't, I would have paid the $195 for them. And I'd do it again, even though I haven't used one. But I know that if I ever do need to use one, it will have been well worth having these pre-installed and pre-wired to various locations.

pardon a newbie owner question..I'm still running stuff down, where do the aux switches terminate? I usually go Bluetooth just to minimize firewall penetration etc, but am interested in using what came with the rig when I can tnx in advance

I take it off and store it. But I have seen that others do that. Problem with mine is that center aluminum support bar. It has two plastic pieces, one on one end, one on the other. One side popped out and was lost on mine. I emailed for a replacement but got crickets. So I have to do some fancy stuff to get that cross bar to stay in place and sometimes it falls, so I didn't want to deal with that during the winter.

That's the cool thing: they are wired to various locations on the vehicle. Under the hood (like for a winch), at the top of the windshield (for a light bar), in the back cargo area. I think I have a diagram saved on my computer. I'll post it when I find it, or maybe someone else will beat me to it.

Axe and shovel mount... I mount them for every adventure. I've not used them. Rear winch. I've used it once offroad and once for utility.

They are preventative, I'll keep taking them

I have not used the rotopax gas can yet…or any of tools in my tool bag…or spare tie rod ends…among other stuff but I think I’ll keep hauling them around…

Your owners manual goes into detail on all of this, but of course this forum is full of such information as well.

Given that the firewall is already penetrated, as it were, you're good to go.

Put connectors on the ends of all the wires, so that you can move/install accessories to different switches as needed without having to snip soldered wires.
