What's the best schedule (miles/32nds/whatever) to do a 5 tire rotation to prevent damage from uneven tires?

I'm sad to report I've never done a 5 tire rotation on any of my 4x4 vehicles so I don't know how to do it right.

the other 700 threads on this subject will say largely the same things but I personally go with every 5k with oil changes.

My pattern of choice is the Rearward Cross seen here

Since I have short arms and can't remove my oil filter without removing the front wheel, I always rotate my tires when I do my oil change. Every 5,000-7,500 miles.

Once a year, when I do my oil change, approximately every 6K.

This is what I do every 5k during my oil change day. I printed this image and posted it in the shop. I think the important thing is to be consistent.

The 5 tire rotation is for 2 doors, but since I have a 4 door, how do I do a 7 tire rotation?
Hah... dangit you got me. Standing over the coffee maker right now giggling to myself.

Wife was less than impressed by the joke... "you and your Bronco people are weird".

Anyway, I do every other oil change, reverse cross.

Honestly the exact pattern isn't super critical, but it is important to stick with whatever pattern you've chosen.

If you’re getting it done at the dealer be sure to mark your spare. Two separate occasions I’ve asked for 5 tire rotation and both times the service advisor wrote it on the service ticket and both times the tech did not rotate the spare.
luckily I marked it and inspected before I paid and left the dealer.

I guess I’m a sheep following the herd:

5K miles with an early oil change here too. Takes about 30 minutes in my driveway.

I do the rearward cross and after my 5k oil change do the rearward cross. I take my WT to a local tire company show them which 5 tire rotation (they draw it on the invoice for the tech) and I also use tire chalk to ensure it was done correctly afterwards by numbering each tire.

Yep. Went to my local dealer (Galpin Ford/Prescott AZ), said "I want a 5-tire rotation". Service writer said "I'm not sure we can do that, we typically only do 4-tire rotations". I said "if you can 't do that then don't do the rotation at all". Got the Bronco back. They did a 4-tire rotation. Fixed it myself by putting the spare into the rotation.

I would be looking for a new dealer if they can't figure that out.

I just had a service last week and the dealer had no problem doing a 5-tire rotation. I didn't watch them do it, but since the four tires that were on the ground going in had mud on them and the spare didn't, it was obvious that the spare was now on the right rear.

I had a rotation done last week (Nor-Cal). They only do 4-tire rotations.

The dealer screwed up the torque settings so bad (over-torqued) on two wheels, that I had to loosen and torque everything on all 4s myself anyway. Not sure what would happen if I had a flat without my impact wrench handy if I would have left things as they had setup.

The dealer also set the two rear tires to 42 and 49 lbs of air. Whats with that!

I've observed this in multiple settings... seems like its common for tire-folks to use an impact wrench to turn the lugs/bolts back on, and then test with a torque wrench to ensure that the lugs are "tight enough"... with never a thought as to whether the lugs are too tight.

I've decided that from here on out I do my own rotations.
