There's a new technology called "safety wire", it tends to be a good solution to keeping bolts in high vibration environments from backing off. Just saying.

Also, relying on threads in 6061 aluminum (or any aluminum for that matter) wouldn't be my first choice, which is partially why I was wondering why they didn't use an alloy like 7075, which allegedly, is significantly stronger (probably approaching 2x the strength).
I think paint marking them at this point would be the next step. Need to verify that they are rotating loose not laterally moving. Those 40s be killing it!

The thing that gets me is “yeah we know those plugs leak but we fixed it going forward and we’ll send you something out to get it correct with your application.”

Then nothing is sent. I’d rather have no response like RPG rather than a promise for the thing and not following through.
its just like race car shit, everything gets modified, adjusted, tweaked, fixed... :)

If they are laterally moving, then it's not a good situation and your prediction regarding the long-term survival may be on target.

The paint mark was the first indicator that the bolt wasn’t tight, or I’m an asshole and forgot to paint them. I always defer to the latter but double checked them anyway.

40’s shouldn’t have any effect on these particular bolts. These just hold the caliper bracket on. Only load they’re seeing is from the caliper so it would be the same on 31’s

Mine are paint marked...But when I removed the fill and drain bolts; well, the paint stuck to the bolt and just rotated around the body rather than breaking the paint mark. Guess when my wheels fall off I'll know they are loose... :ROFLMAO:

The rotational forces are exponential which translates into more lateral force through shafts causing side loading. When you grab the brakes your generating side movement by slowing the tire. Physics of why larger tires need bigger wheel bearings. The rear caliper you be absorbing some of this lateral force. @87-Z28 would throw some equations in right about know.

Need to check that the caliper is not bottom out on the floating pins or something weird happening with the electric parking brake. Never know if something changes in the manufacturing tolerances. 40s are a whole other level of harmonics and change of motion dynamics. You can easily yield hardware.

@SierraBronco question is knowing what you know now, would you have done the same with the portals? The pioneers get the arrows!
Hmmmmmmmmmmm. That’s a really good question. The additional clearance is nice. Really really nice. It does come at a price of raising your center of gravity, but if you invest in taller shock towers you can drop that back down. The additional maintenance isn’t a big deal, unless you’re counting taking everything apart several times in a short period of time due to manufacturing errors and oversight. At this point I’d say this biggest drawback on them is the effect it has on your steering as a bronco owner. Even with the more powerful motor and in mud mode you’ll bind up frequently on the rocks. You’re just asking a lot from the rack with huge tires, low pressure, the massive scrub radius, and additional weight from the portal box. We did some stuff this weekend on Triple 7’s and Milts Mile that really impressed the bronco haters, but the steering was embarrassing at times. I feel like there’s an opportunity for someone really smurt to dial in a badass electric motor for these things, so maybe that will happen one day.

I don't have an issue with the steering. I mean it for sure takes more effort than before but it hasn't been something that bothers me.
My biggest gripe is with how the portal interact with the suspension. That much unsprung weight at the corners just makes everything so slow to react.
It just feels weird.

We definitely need to adjust our stacks in the suspension, but the steering will absolutely bind up and not do any of that turning stuff you’re asking for it to do. Maybe it’s just us 🤷🏼‍♂️

Yeah. I've never had my steering bind up. Granted I'm probably not taking as hard core trails as you are but I'm not taking easy ones either.

Can we convince PSC to do a hydro assist for the Bronco? Is that feasible?
