I have an Outer Banks, is there a way to disable or turn off the speed limit sign on the dashboard? I ask because my daughter drives my car, (she has her learners permit) and she looks at the speed limit sign on my dashboard more than she does the road signs. She needs to get into the habit of looking at the road signs, especially since the speed limit sign on the dashboard isn’t always right. But it’s hard because the speed limit sign is right there. We haven’t figured out how to turn it off.

I was not aware of a speed limit sign unless using my Android Auto. Perhaps a function of OEM GPS, which I do not have? If so, look in GPS settings or Android/Apple settings.

It is there regardless of you using any sort of alternative GPS/maps and it is there even if you aren't using the GPS for directions.

It is absolutely awful and wrong about half the time on the roads by me in Central New Jersey.

Ford really needs to add a way to disable it because of how often it is wrong

black electrical tape is the universal solution for those pesky things like the check engine light and now the speed limit icon!!

Can be turned off with Forscan.

It's almost always wrong in my experience, but I assume it's using map data somehow along with GPS. So I bet if you turn off Vehicle Location in Sync it may also disable that speed limit sign.

An old Honda Accord I used to have actually took a picture in some manner of posted speed limit signs. Was cool, adjusted when one was up for construction and such. I do believe this works via GPS/map. Fairly accurate from what I have seen in the Bronco and my Expedition in my area.

I find it to be amazingly accurate. Only one place near me where it's off by a few hundred yards. Note that if you turn on Waze (not sure about Nav), it won't show on the screen under steering wheel, and rarely on the main screen itself.

South Jersey here!
Speed limit sign on dash is wrong almost 50% of the time same as the temperature reading. Maybe it’s a Jersey thing!

I didn’t notice the speed limit sign on the cluster until I was looking at a picture I took of my dash after engaging flat tow mode. It’s about as accurate as Google Maps speed limits are around here. Probably 90% of the time or more.

Mine shows whether I’m using Waze or not, so there may be something wrong with yours if it’s not showing up.

Well, that's what I thought. Now you're going to make me look. Ah, now I remember, when you have a destination in!!

After they get their license they forget all about the speed icon on the dash. Just like the turn signal switch. Texting overrides any component of a vehicle anyway.

A quick and dirty fix that's easily reversible... you could try wrapping the sat radio/GPS antenna in foil to prevent it from receiving a strong signal. No GPS = no speed limit sign data. Downside is this will affect sat radio and anything else that depends on the GPS signal.

You have adaptive cruise control? Ford has speed sign recognition and posts the speed limit to the dashboard cluster and can adapt your adaptive cruise control. There’s a camera just below the rear view mirror that looks for the signs. There was a disable option in the settings.
